How to make a name for yourself in the new era of the internet -
Securing a new and original domain name can be a tricky task – especially when you consider there are 276 million registered domain names already taken.
Anyone who has attempted to buy a domain ending in ‘.com’ or ‘co.uk’ recently will likely have experienced a slew of ‘sorry, that domain is not available’ rejections from the registration site.
Demand for new domains isn’t slowing down either; in the first quarter of 2014, an additional five million domain names were added to the ... read more ...

.Cash & .Tax Launch Today Here Are The Registered Domain Names - We have chatted earlier this week about the new domain names registered in two of the 5 new gTLD’s going live today, .Fund and .Investments and thought we would let you know what domain names were not going to be available when General Registration opens today for .Cash and .Tax.
We think .Tax is going to be the weakest of the 4 new Donuts extensions launching today.
Although its the cheapest of the four new gTLD’s extension in terms of registration prices, we think the application for .tax ... read more ...

On a year-over-year basis, total global TLD registrations grew by 7.5 percent or 19.3 million new domain name registrations. While overall growth is high, the .com and .net TLDs only grew by 4 percent year-over year.

420K ICANN Collision New gTLD Domains Start The Process of Being Freed As … - There are a ton of new gTLD’s being “registered” today.
Many readers have written and commented about the volume of domain “registered” today and that these registrations may screw up the new gTLD stats when the zone files update tomorrow.
However the vast majority are domain names on the ICANN Collision list and appears to be a technical entry, rather than a real domain registration, one of the steps in the domain name being freed.
According to Registered.Today over 420,000 new gTLD ... read more ...

ntldstats: 80% Of All New gTLD’s Are Parked & Has Stats For Each Extension … - ntldstats.com, has added parking stats to its system, both overall and by each new gTLD extension.
Overall ntldstats says that just over 80% of all new gTLD domain names are parked.
Last week Verisign announced as of June 29th only 3% of all new gTLD resolved to “business websites” which I assume by definition excludes personal websites and which may account for the difference.
Parked domains are defined on the site as any domains which has a traditional parked page which also seems to include ... read more ...

How people are using the web’s newest corners -
It’s been half a year since the web’s first new top-level domains (gTLDs) went live, a moment Quartz called “the biggest land rush in history.” The web is in the process of moving from fewer than two dozen TLDs (such as the .com in qz.com) to over a thousand. Nearly 200 have already gone live.
Now that the dust has settled, it is possible to look back over the past few months and see what effect these new TLDs are really having on the web. Verisign, the company that administers ... read more ...

ICANN offers fix for domain name collisions -
I recently got a call from a friend whose business was having problems with an internal network whose web server had a URL that included .guru. One day, their staff had trouble reaching it. They'd made no changes and you could still reach the server using its IPv4 address; it was a mystery. It took me hours — and you still owe me guys! —but I finally discovered that there was a public internet website with a .guru top-level domain name that was conflicting with their private ... read more ...

Call for ICANN to Educate and Not Mislead GAC -
I read with interest the recent blog written by Theresa Swinehart a Sr. Advisor to the President on Strategy. She wrote: "The most critical element of this [ICANN Transition] process is trust and alignment. To ensure success on this accountability track, we must as a community work closely together to make sure that the final process is meaningful. There is plenty of work to be done in an ambitious period of time."
