The survey of 10,000 consumers (5,000 from each country) found that 87 percent said that they didn’t feel comfortable visiting new domains, presumably an issue connected to unfamiliarity.
Roughly half claimed that their insecurity would be helped by ... read more ...
Suckstobeyou.com -
Trademark owners will be thrilled to know that for a short time (until June 1) they have a priority right to register their brands with the generic top-level domain (gTLD) “.sucks.”
Top level domains are the suffixes added to a domain name/address. Generic gTLDs were intended to be available for general registration by any person or organization within a particular group (“restricted”) and included the very well-known gTLDs “.com,” “.org,” “.net,” etc. As the qualification ... read more ...
New gTLDs and Universal Acceptance -
Universal Acceptance is the topic of the moment, explained in one simple sentence: in the new gTLD world, it means that various groups (the DNS, ICANN and a few others) are working hard to make new domain names better accepted by the existing technical Internet infrastructure. A video extracted from the "ICANN 52" meeting explains it in 50 slides but I suggest a pause on slide 17, because it shows where the issues are and what remains to be fixed to give the ultimate answer to that question: ... read more ...

What Taylor Swift Can Teach Your Company About Protecting Its Brand Online -
Your company could probably learn a thing or two from Taylor Swift.
Earlier this month, the ever business-savvy pop star unwittingly generated a ton of click bait for publishers by doing something smart: She registered her name under the new adult-themed top-level domains .porn and .adult. It's a wise move for any brand, but these salacious-sounding TLDs are just the beginning: The number of available website domain names is about to explode.
This coming influx of domains will undoubtedly ... read more ...

Now that new gTLD registries have been operating for more than a year, a few registries have already experienced going through an audit and a few more are now receiving notifications that they are next in line. For all, the process of going through an ICANN audit is a first. Once you receive the Request for Information (RFI), you will have 15 days to respond, or seek an extension of time. Extensions may be available on a case by case basis.

Premium Generics, the Domain Industry’s Luxury Goods -
Categories. The mere mention of the word risks eliciting groans from any domain industry specialist. In the run up to the new gTLD program, this concept was oft discussed. It seemed obvious to most that TLDs were not a homogenous ensemble but instead, could exist in many different shapes and sizes. Except to ICANN staff. They systematically refused to entertain the notion of categories. Even when ICANN Board members suggested some kind of recognition for different TLD types should be hardwired ... read more ...
SEO Benefits Between .Com and Everything Else - This will probably be a controversial post as the topic has certainly been controversial. Radix released some stats about one of their strings today, Dot Website went over 50,000 regs, they did actually give my OnlineCasino.website sale a mention. To be fair it was not for a huge amount but profit is profit (non premium registation of $14.99).
