On The Day New gTLD Picked Up 19,163 New Registrations, .Com Picked Up 37,782 - Plenty of new and buzz was created yesterday when new gTLD’s generated 19,163 new domain registrations led by .Guru However in all fairness we need to point out that the total number of new gTLD registrations on the 1st day of general availability was still just about 1/2 of the number of net new .Com registrations. Start adult Defense.net Covered on Tech Crunch - Its not everyday you see a start up built on a .net, I usually see more built on a .co or .me.  Defense.net is a start up focused on DDOS mitigation services. The company got a write up this morning on Tech Crunch. According to Crunchbase the company has raised $9.5 million. Domain wise the domain looks to have been owned by Marchex who sold the domain to the guys from Original.com in November of 2012, and they flipped it in 3 weeks to the founder of the start up. Verisign loses new TLD conflict opposite .brand applicant M-NET - Verisign loses another string confusion challenge. Verisign, the registry for .net domain names, has lost a string confusion objection it brought against M-Net and its application for the top level domain .mnet. Verisign Reports: 125.9 Million .Com/.Net Domains Registered Up 5% From Last Year - VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), reported financial results for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 2013 reporting revenue of $244 million up 9% from the same quarter in 2012. Verisign reported net income of $81 million and diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.53 for the third quarter of 2013, compared to net income of $78 million and diluted EPS of $0.47 in the same quarter in 2012. Verisign announces another .net cost hike - 25 days after prices went up, Verisign announces another price increase. The wholesale registry fee for .net domain names just increased from $5.11 to $5.62 on July 1. Today, Verisign announced another price hike that will increase the price to $6.18. The increase will go into effect on February 1, 2014 following a six month waiting period. .Com/.Net Total Registrations Slows To A Crawl - According to Verisign’s Zone File Information site the total amount of .com/.net registered as of today is 119,700,000 million As of March 31st the amount of .com/.net domains stood at 116.7 million domain names. GoDaddy Hikes Price of .Net and .Org Domain Names to $13.19 - You’ve been paying more at the pump. Now you’re paying more at the registrar.
