Expired domain report: Mangos, Drones and more - Over 200 expired domain auction prices in this week’s Expired Domain Report. In a parallel universe, I would be typing this article from a Mango computer rather than a breed of Apple. Still, mangos have proliferated on this planet beyond Darwin’s definition of success. “Mango” trademarks abound for products / services as diverse as beauty salons, audio recordings, fertilizers, lead generation, secured access cards, language instruction, and baby strollers. ... read more ...

This week’s lapsed domain report: Got .info? - That would be Coleridge — his ill fated sailor thirstily contemplating the vast seawater. But I doubt “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” was the Rime.com that just sold at GoDaddy Auctions for $12.8k. Aside from that archaic spelling of “rhyme”, we have “rime” as the hoarfrost that forms from a fog in winter. Nope. Not it either. My bet is on the Play Station game, Rime — whose trailer is oddly reminiscent of Coleridge’s poem with its sea scape, ... read more ...

This week’s lapsed domain name sales roundup - Along the way to yesterday’s $20k sale of EnRoute.com, GoDaddy expired auctions zigzagged through some desirable addresses and took a few weird detours. Two domains that attracted me personally were the self-explanatory GenerateLeads.com ($8k) and Masker.com ($2.7k), which suits various privacy services and also describes a guest at a masquerade. Other bidding results appear to be more about the link profiles of past websites than due to the quality of the domain ... read more ...

Taking a demeanour a May’s NameJet sales - An deeper look at some of last month’s sales on NameJet. If you didn’t catch Andrew Allemann’s insightful take on April sales at NameJet, it’s worth a read.  This time, I’m filling in with some observations on last month’s sales — “observations” being a euphemism for knee jerk reactions and blind spots! Out of 76 sales, I’ve picked 10 to look at: Liao.com $100,000 – Mentioning this one would be obligatory for the price alone.  Not only is ... read more ...

EDR: Results and research from over 150 lapsed domain name auctions - In this week’s Expired Domain Report (EDR), Joseph Peterson gives the rundown on over 150 expired domain name auctions. “Smart” is the word of the day, judging by the top 2 expired auction results from GoDaddy.  It’s not surprising, really.  Computing has infiltrated our lives, and smart phones are conquering both the younger generation and the developing world.  But although the #1 spot is about mobile tech, the #2 domain, SmartRoom.com, seems to be ... read more ...

Two “Premium Domain” New gTLD Auctions Start; Namejet For .Build; Sedo for .Bid - I see a couple of “premium” domain name auctions are starting this week one at Namejet.com and one at Sedo for the new gTLD extensions .Build and .Bid respectively At Namejet.com they are auctioning off 35 .Build Domains. I have to say I don’t get these. Many of the terms make sense but they are backwards. Many of these domain would be good domains, except that the terms starts with Build, not end with Build so selfconfidence.build doesn’t make that much sense as the proper term using in ... read more ...

EDR: A demeanour during 150 lapsed domain name auctions from a past week - This week’s Expired Domain Report from Joseph Peterson has close to 150 expired domain name auctions from last week. As always, some of the prices paid are head-scratchers. One thing organizations are good at … is dropping the ball.  Take this week’s top-selling expired domain auction, for instance. MobiLoans.com seems to have purchased MobileLoans.com in December, 2011.  Last April, the domain expired; and now NameJet has sold it for a whopping $30k.  Although ... read more ...

EDR: Weird lapsed domain sales (partially) explained - This week’s Expired Domain Report (EDR) explains why some domains sell for what they do, plus a preview of domains you might want to backorder. Why do people bid on expired domain auctions? The number of bidders and the prices are often surprisingly high; so it’s a fair question. FingerYoga.com is a case in point. Who bought this 12-year-old domain isn’t yet clear. But there were 83 bids as high as $2,227. Were those bidders looking to create a new website? ... read more ...

My thoughts on final month’s NameJet domain sales - Some great deals and some questionable purchases. NameJet just released a list of sales over $2,000 from April. Here are my thoughts on some of them…the last one being the most interesting. Certifications.com $17,100 – I like this domain. There are thousands of certifications people can get, and many of them come with a fee. I’m not sure how many are offered online, but this domain could be a fantastic directory with an affiliate or lead gen model. Through.com ... read more ...
