GoDaddy launches Domain Investor App - App makes on-the-go bidding easier, even if you use two-factor authentication. GoDaddy has launched a new domain name investor app for the iPhone and Android, making it easier to watch and bid on domain names at GoDaddy Auctions. Mike McLaughlin, GM for Domains at the company, announced the app release during his keynote address at NamesCon today in Las Vegas. The app’s functionality is fairly simple. But it’s certainly much faster than logging into GoDaddy’s mobile site to bid, especially ... read more ...

Quick Poll: What Will Be The High Bid On Health.Org - Earlier today we posted about a Godaddy.com expired domain name auction underway for health.org. The auction still has over 9 days to go as of publication. Assuming the domain auction does not get called off because the owner renews the domain name we opened a poll question to ask “What Will High Bid Be For The Domain .Health.org?” The poll is located on the right about half way down the page. For bragging rights you can also put you’re actual prediction in the comments beow With bidding at ... read more ...

GoDaddy Auctions implements bidder verification - I think this is fairly ironic news, considering how much trouble they have with the simplest things such as auto charging a paypal account. My partners and I have a Paypal agreement with GoDaddy and have for some years. We keep a balance of a min of $30k in it at all dues as a float. Due to sales, etc., sometimes it even has over $100k in it. Yet GoDaddy auctions consistently fails to auto charge it several times a month. I’m on many platform, and depend on these pieces of software ... read more ...

Last week’s Expired Domain Name Sales - After seeing English and Chinese jostling for king of the mountain week after week, it’s a real pleasure to see Spanish climb to that top spot, as if reminding us that it – not English – stands as the world’s 2nd most populous language (behind Mandarin). GoDaddy auctioned off the word Gustazo.com for $4.7k. If you’re wondering what it means, well, I’ve already given you a clue in that first sentence. “Gustazo” equals a special pleasure. In particular, ... read more ...

Over 200 Expired Domain Sales Results, including Kickbox.com - Joseph Peterson reviews the past week’s expired domain name sales. The combat sport that brought Jean-Claude Van Damme to the silver screen (and eventually put “the Muscles from Brussels” to work in maracas-shaking GoDaddy commercials) had a notable expired domain sale last week: Kickbox.com ended at NameJet just a dollar shy of $12k. I’d say Kickbox.com is agile enough to be used inside or outside the literal ring, and we may see it developed with no ... read more ...

2 weeks of lapsed domain name sales - This article covers a 2-week period on either side of Thanksgiving: 19 November – 2 December. For that reason, you’ll see the sales list crammed full to bursting like a ClownCar.com ($662). I was going to jettison everything below $300 to save space, but I figure readers can quite easily scroll past extra information. GoDaddy’s top expired auction last week comes as a bit of a surprise. Whatever its accrued merits for SEO, the 4-word, 23-letter BarnDoorSlidingHardware.com ... read more ...

HuaGao.com during $20k and other lapsed domain name sales - Joseph Peterson summarizes weekly expired domain name sales Once again, China tops our list of last week’s expired domain auctions. This time it’s GoDaddy with HuaGao.com ($20.3k), meaning … you tell me! Various working professionals share that name. (There’s a certified public accountant using HuaGaoCPA.com, for instance.) Yet I suspect that coupling “Hua” (transform or blossom) + “Gao” (tall or above average) conveys some other meaning in Chinese. ... read more ...

EDR: GoDaddy’s 4 letter, $42,500 domain name auction - This week’s Expired Domain Report from Joseph Peterson. The gap between last week’s most expensive expired domain auction and the rest of the “stragglers” was roughly a factor of 10 – a full digit difference. Now, in a retail context, $42.5k is a respectable but hardly record-shattering sum to pay for a domain. As we all know, enough domain names sell for 6 and 7 figures each year that $42.5k is quickly overshadowed by the market overall. Even at ... read more ...

Over 200 lapsed domain name sales [results] - Joseph Peterson reviews the past week of expired domain name auctions. It will surprise some people that the country responsible for last week’s #2 Namejet expired auction is Turkey. Kemer.com ($11.4k) describes a seaside resort region. No, Italy, Greece, and Spain are not the only countries on the Mediterranean. ICANN has offices in Turkey, and so do domain investors. Meanwhile, there’s nothing surprising about the $16k sale of 9135.com. China has deep pockets ... read more ...

Expired Domain Report: A Chinese Takeover! - Joseph Peterson reviews the past week’s expired domain sales. Pretty soon, not speaking Chinese will disqualify me from reporting on the domain market altogether!  So many of the big-ticket domain sales look eastward — numerical domains, LL through LLLL, and Chinese Pinyin.  China dominated NameJet charts in September, and China tops the list of last week’s GoDaddy expired auctions as well with ChaoZhi.com ($26k). One possible meaning of “Chāo Zhī”, ... read more ...

Expired Domain Name Report: iWealth.com $12k and more - In a world of iPods and iPads, why iWealth.com is worth money requires little explanation. Bidding for that expired domain came in just shy of $12k last week at NameJet — with retirement planning and personal investing being its most obvious applications. I’m less persuaded that TranscendUSA.com was good value at $6.5k. Not to knock transcendence, but a “USA” suffix can feel tacked on. Usually it’s the mark of brands looking to cut corners on domain ... read more ...

Expired Domain Report: 4 minute domain sells for $31.5k - Chinese container shipping — which is to say global freight —  must account for last week’s $22.6k sale of QianWan.com. The Qingdao Qianwan Container Terminal Co., Ltd. manages one of the world’s busiest ports. Namejet’s top expired auction, on the other hand, isn’t so easy to I.D.: IDAI.com for $31.5k. Is it Irish? Then it’s “The Interior Design Academy of Ireland”, offering diplomas by correspondence. Is it Japanese? Then it’s a railway ... read more ...

Expired domains: LiYou.com for $22k, Drastic.com for $12k and more - Would a radio program devoted to “Ethiopian entertainment, sports, and news” and broadcasting out of Washington D.C. pay $22,323 to drop the word “radio” from its domain name? No. But China may have enough individuals named Li You for one of them to be NameJet’s $22.3k high bidder for LiYou.com. To me that price seems inordinately high for a personal name, but there may be some meaning I’m unaware of. Chinese is Greek to me. TalkingBooks.com ($10.4k) ... read more ...

Expired domain report: Mangos, Drones and more - Over 200 expired domain auction prices in this week’s Expired Domain Report. In a parallel universe, I would be typing this article from a Mango computer rather than a breed of Apple. Still, mangos have proliferated on this planet beyond Darwin’s definition of success. “Mango” trademarks abound for products / services as diverse as beauty salons, audio recordings, fertilizers, lead generation, secured access cards, language instruction, and baby strollers. ... read more ...

This week’s lapsed domain name sales roundup - Along the way to yesterday’s $20k sale of EnRoute.com, GoDaddy expired auctions zigzagged through some desirable addresses and took a few weird detours. Two domains that attracted me personally were the self-explanatory GenerateLeads.com ($8k) and Masker.com ($2.7k), which suits various privacy services and also describes a guest at a masquerade. Other bidding results appear to be more about the link profiles of past websites than due to the quality of the domain ... read more ...

Domain name auction services should rethink automobile extensions - The current method of preventing bid sniping leads to bidder fatigue. Last Friday GoDaddy sent out a somewhat confusing notice about a change to GoDaddy Auctions and auto extensions. Previously, any bid placed within the last five minutes of an auction extended the clock by five minutes. Now, a bid placed in the last four minutes of an auction will reset the clock to five minutes; a bid placed between the four and five minute marks will increase the clock by one ... read more ...

EDR: Results and research from over 150 lapsed domain name auctions - In this week’s Expired Domain Report (EDR), Joseph Peterson gives the rundown on over 150 expired domain name auctions. “Smart” is the word of the day, judging by the top 2 expired auction results from GoDaddy.  It’s not surprising, really.  Computing has infiltrated our lives, and smart phones are conquering both the younger generation and the developing world.  But although the #1 spot is about mobile tech, the #2 domain, SmartRoom.com, seems to be ... read more ...

How we destitute another click rascal (and auction fraud) scheme - A silly mistake tipped me off to a click fraud and pump-and-dump scheme. Every once in a while, someone running a click fraud scam slips up. And sometimes they slip up in a big way: by accidentally tipping me off about it. For example, In August this year I uncovered one such scam after digging around following a suspicious phone call from someone pretending to be with ICANN. The people behind the scam had been boasting about how they’re making so much money with ... read more ...

GoDaddy Auctions sells 39,830 domain names in October - GoDaddy Auctions sells nearly 40,000 domain names in October. GoDaddy auctions sells 40,264 domain names in August - A good month for GoDaddy Auctions including a public six figure sale. GoDaddy Auctions sold 40,264 domain names last month, up slightly from July’s 39,264 sales. (Numbers aren’t finalized immediately when the month ends, so August’s numbers might increase.) As always, the most popular word in sold domains was “online”. That was followed closely by “home”. Health, media, blog, design, and free were also popular keywords. Most sales were through auctions, ... read more ...

GoDaddy tests new lander for lapsed domain names - GoDaddy drops PPC ads on expired domains in favor of auction promotion. A domain name registrar typically parks a domain when it expires. The expired domain parked page usually notifies visitors that the domain is expired and up for auction with a fairly subtle notice toward the top of the page. It appears GoDaddy is trying something different. Check out the landing page you see if you visit 5sg.com, which recently expired and is up for auction at GoDaddy: Gone are ... read more ...

Go Daddy creates speedier payments for Premium Listings, adds new remuneration options - Premium Listings will now be paid faster and by more than just checks.
