Donuts starts releasing name collision domains - First batch of domains is now available for registration. Donuts has begun releasing domain names that were originally held back due to name collision concerns. The first set of domain names, all related to photography, became available yesterday. Uniregistry Whois tells we because a domain isn’t available - Whois explains if domain is on name collision list. One of the most frustrating challenges of pre-registering new top level domain names is having the registrar return a search “not available”. You end up asking yourself “why isn’t it available?” The first instinct is to blame the registry for holding back what appears to be a good domain name. Odds are that’s not the case. Do usually 4 new TLDs have a possibility of going live this year? - Barring a flurry of activity at ICANN or changes to the name collision mitigation plan, the launch of new TLDs won’t be a 2013 event. ICANN released updated contracting statistics for its new top level domain name program yesterday, and applicants will be sad to see that there are still just four signed registry agreements. Although a lot of applicants are going through the process, it has been slow going. For example, the applicant for the Arabic IDN that means ... read more ...

ICANN needs to chuck TLD field a bone on name collisions - If delays are necessary, ICANN should pitch in for monitoring and notification system. A couple weeks ago new top level domain name applicants received some very unwelcome news: many of their TLDs could be significantly delayed due to security concerns about “name collisions”. Basically, some private networks already ping non-existent top level domain names that applicants have applied for. This leads to so-called name collisions. ICANN should have undertaken ... read more ...

After unconditional it underneath a rug, Name Collisions come behind to haunt new TLD program - Name collisions derail new top level domain name timeline. Everyone in the executive suite at Verisign must have been smiling this morning. That’s because ICANN dropped a bombshell, delaying a big portion of new top level domain names due to “name collisions”. It not only delays much of the program (as some have argued is Verisign’s goal in raising concerns), but also shows that Verisign isn’t crazy for raising its concerns. (Name collisions have been discussed ... read more ...
