ICANN headcount bursting 50% this mercantile year -
Non-profit plans to continue hiring in all departments.
ICANN expects to end FY 2013 this June with nearly 50% more employees than it began the year with.
That’s according to the non-profit’s FY 2014 draft operating plan, which shows an expected 233 employees by the end of June. It ended June 2012 with 158 employees. That’s nearly 50% growth in just one year.

WIthdrawn Applications Are Reflected On The ICANN Website The Same Day - Earlier today Straat Investments let us know they had withdrawn their application for .Book today, we now know that once a site is withdrawn with ICANN it is reflected on the ICANN site the same day.
Straat’s withdrawn application for .book is now reflected on ICANN’s site just hours after it was withdrawn making it the 65th new gTLD application to be withdrawn.

ICANN Tax Return: Ends With $440 Million In Cash & Securities - ICANN has published it’s Federal tax return form 990 for the tax year ending on June 30, 2012 all 68 pages of it.
According to the filing, ICANN ended its fiscal year with $466 Million in Assets and $388 Million in Liabilities therefore showing a net asset balance of over $83 Million up $3 Million from the year before.
ICANN paid almost $28 Million in Salaries including $7.1 Million paid to 36 people listed by ICANN as Directors, Officers , Key employees and Highest Paid Employees.

ICANN publishes 2012 taxation return -
Tax return unveils compensation, legal costs.
ICANN just published its FY 2012 tax return online (pdf). The form tax return covers the year ending June 30, 2012.
Much of the information, including financials, had previously been published by ICANN on its web site, so there’s not much new there.

38 More New gTLD Pass IE: .Paris; .Forex; .Cpa; .Airforce, .Guide, .Melbourne - 38 More new gTLD applications passed ICANN Initial Evaluation Today.
Heading the list are the Geo’s of .Paris (which had been earlier passed over on its turn) .Melbourne and .Durban
Other generics passing IE include Amazon’s (AMZN) applications for .Talk and .Silk, Google’s (GOOG) applications for .Cal, and .Cpa Demand Media, Inc. (DMD) application for .Airforce.
ICANN has now evaluated all applications with a priority number of 350 passing 301 of them.

ICANN sends crack notice to vast Argentinian domain registrar -
Dattatec late on fees, slow to respond to whois inaccuracy claims.
ICANN has sent a breach notice to a relatively large domain name registrar based in Argentina.
ICANN claims (pdf) that Dattatec.com, SRL is in breach of a number of provisions of the registrar accreditation agreement.

Verisign blasts ICANN over due registry agreement -
Verisign says unilateral right to amend is alive and well in proposed contract.
Verisign senior vice presidents Pat Kane and Richard Goshorn have sent a letter to ICANN blasting the inclusion of amendment right clauses in the proposed new registry agreement.
In the sometimes snarky letter, Verisign claims that ICANN’s unilateral right to amend the new gTLD agreement is alive and well, despite some changes to language in the latest version.

Can Only UDRP Providers Become URS Dispute Resolution Providers? - According to Brad Bertoglio of Intersponsive Corporation, it looks like ICANN appears to be taking the position that it will not approve any application to provide URS services unless the actual applicant is directly a provider of other dispute resolution services, and potentially only UDRP providers.

TLDH Withdrawing 4 New gTLD Applications: .Free; .Sale; .Spa; .Zulu - According to a press release we received this morning, The Board of Directors of Top Level Domain Holdings (AIM:TLDH) issued an update to its new gTLD application with the biggest news out of the release is that it is withdrawing 4 of its new gTLD application
TLDH announced that is decided to withdraw its application for .Free; .Sale; .Spa; .Zulu.
Those withdrawals are not reflected on ICANN’s site.

The three domain name registrars are:
Dotted Ventures, Inc. (IANA# 833) of Atlanta, GA which owes past due accreditation fees in the amount of $9,289.10
A. Telecom S.A. (IANA# 1458) of Sao Paulo Brazil which owes past due accreditation fees in the amount of $10,863.67

ICANN Opens Comment Period On GAC Advice For New gTLD’s -
ICANN just opened a comment period to get input on a portion of the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) Beijing Communiqué in which it provided advice on New gTLDs.
ICANN is looking for input on “how the New gTLD Board Committee should address GAC advice regarding safeguards applicable to broad categories of New gTLD strings”.
Comments can be left from now until the period closed on May 14th 2013 at 23:59 UTC.

ICANN will now be means to postpone domain name registrars -
[Well, looks like ICANN actually had a similar provision in its 2009 RAA, just in a different section. Sorry about that.] One of the big improvements in the proposed 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) over the 2009 version is the ability for ICANN to suspend registrars.
Previously, if a registrar was in breach of contract, ICANN only had the “nuclear option” – to terminate the domain registrar.

NAF Sets URS Fees $375-$500 Per Complaint & $400 For Domain Holder - The National Arbitration Forum, (NAF) has just released its proposed Supplemental Rules for Uniform Rapid Suspension (URS) , including complainant fees that range from $375 – $500 depending on number of domains involved.
The fee for the domain holder who gets hit with a URS is $400 if the complaint is for more than 16 domain names.
However all domain holders will have to pay for a re-evaluation of a negative URS decision and an appeal of a URS decision.

Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre second to sign up with ICANN for rapid domain suspension system.
ICANN has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre (ADNDRC) to be a provider under Uniform Rapid Suspension (URS).

Name.space sends lawsuit opposite ICANN over new TLDs to Court of Appeals -
Company that offers domain names in alternative root pushes forward with legal challenge.
Alternative root company name.space isn’t letting its beef with ICANN die just yet.
The company has filed an appeal (pdf) with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit after its suit against ICANN was tossed out by a lower court last month.

The application had a prioritization number of 1150 and becomes the 45th new gTLD application to be withdrawn.
The .Bloomingdales registry was going to be operated on a closed basis.

1&1 Owner of Mail.com Withdraws Application For New gTLD .Mail - 11 Mail Media GmbH, whose parent company is United Internet AG, just withdrew its application to operate the new gTLD .Mail.
I think this is a very meaningful withdrawal because of the fact that as the applicant owns Mail.com and stands to be the biggest benfificaly of having the .Mail new gTLD and the most at risk for loss of business to a .Mail new gTLD.
