Two companies appeal to ICANN’s board for reconsideration of new TLD objections.
The first of what are likely many “appeals” of new top level domain name objections have been filed with ICANN’s board in the form of Requests for Reconsideration.
Both Dish DBS and Hotel Top Level Domain S.a.r.l. filed Requests for Reconsideration with the board on Friday. Each request blames the process created by ICANN as well as the decision making by the panelists.

Do usually 4 new TLDs have a possibility of going live this year? -
Barring a flurry of activity at ICANN or changes to the name collision mitigation plan, the launch of new TLDs won’t be a 2013 event.
ICANN released updated contracting statistics for its new top level domain name program yesterday, and applicants will be sad to see that there are still just four signed registry agreements.
Although a lot of applicants are going through the process, it has been slow going.
For example, the applicant for the Arabic IDN that means ... read more ...

In his letter representing the association Mr. Cakebread told ICANN in part:
If the applications for .wine and .vin are allowed to move forward, our 5o0 winery members ... read more ...

ICANN Screwed Up By Not Requiring Joining All Objections By One Objector Against a Same String Into 1 Proceeding - Last nights news that a International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) panelist ruled (pdf) that .cam and .com are too confusingly similar to coexist after two different panels ruled days earlier that the strings were not similar confusing, shouldn’t be a huge surprise to anyone in the domain space.
After all anyone that follows UDRP’s on a regular basis knows there is little consistency between “close” UDRP cases, those not involving slam dunks like a parked domains like Faceboook.com

ICANN needs to chuck TLD field a bone on name collisions -
If delays are necessary, ICANN should pitch in for monitoring and notification system.
A couple weeks ago new top level domain name applicants received some very unwelcome news: many of their TLDs could be significantly delayed due to security concerns about “name collisions”.
Basically, some private networks already ping non-existent top level domain names that applicants have applied for. This leads to so-called name collisions.
ICANN should have undertaken ... read more ...

So Now What Will Google Do With Its New gTLD Application For .Search - Of the over new gTLD 1,900 applications received by ICANN, Google’s application for .Search has gotten arguably the most attention of the mainstream media (neck and neck with Amazon’s .Amazon TLD)
Google originally filed its application for .Search to operate on a closed basis, meaning that the registry generally would not be open to registrations by third parties, but amended its application back in April of this year to operate it as a open string using Dotless Domains, just days after the ... read more ...
