Google nixing domain names in mobile search - Search results replace domain name with site name. Google is making sweeping changes to its search rankings on mobile devices next week, but the search giant just introduced another pretty big change. Starting yesterday, Google began replacing the URL in search results with the site’s name and breadcrumb. The site-name-instead-of-domain is rolling out in the U.S. only for now. Breadcrumbs are rolling out worldwide. Here’s an example: In this example, domaining.com has been replaced by “Domaining” ... read more ...

Donuts: “We’ve labelled a product aloft utterly simply since we consider it’s significantly superior,” - Xconomy.com did an article on the new gtlds and had a focus on Donuts and they got quotes from Richard Tindal a co-founder and COO. Again I think some of the quotes are way off base. Tindal talks about Donuts pricing being higher because it is a superior product. No new gtld currently is superior to .com that is just patently false and this type of stuff is what hurts the new gtlds in discussions and debates imo. Tindal does have the good sense to admit that awareness of the new gtlds is still very ... read more ...

So What Happened to that whole Do No Evil ? - The Verge published an article that painted Google in a very bad light. When your motto is “Do No Evil” being accused of blackmail can be very upsetting. The article discusses certain findings by the FTC back in 2012. Apparently one of the findings was that Google  lifted product rankings and placed them in their own search results for those products. Google Might Not Like Your Naturally Generated Links - Julie Joyce wrote a very interesting article on Search Engine Land about an hour ago on Google and natural links. We always tend to think of natural links as the prize or reward for creating engaging content. You didn’t pay for them, you did not manipulate the system, someone just liked your content and either included it in an article or on a forum or blog comment. Julie points out that SearchEngineLand.com is one of her best sources for client referrals and yet it seems Google has flagged those ... read more ...

Google Decides To Reverse Ban of Sexually Explicit Material on Blogger - Well that was quick. We wrote earlier this week about Google banning pornography and sexually explicit material on Blogger. Well today the company posted on its product forums website that the decision has been reversed. Instead the company will step up enforcement against those that do not mark their blogs as adult content and those who may try to use the platform to sell porn. I think they knew people were looking to leave the site, as even people who did not have a blog with anything pornography ... read more ...

Google Wins a .Moto New gTLD Beating Rightside.co (NAME) For Its Motorola Division - Google has won the rights to operate the .Moto new gTLD beating United TLD Holdings which is now Rightside.co (NAME) in what we can only assume was a private contention auction. The new domain extension .Moto was scheduled to go to a ICANN Last Resort Auction later this month.
