[Update: Go Daddy hit the milestone earlier today.] About six months after crossing the 30 million domain name mark, The Go Daddy Group is set to surpass 40 million domains under management, most likely on Wednesday. Bob Parsons buys house at auction for $8.72 million.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Go Daddy founder and CEO Bob Parsons just bought a house in Hawaii owned by singer Cher. The house went up for auction, and Parsons was the winning bidder at $8.72 million.

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, a better partnership between domainers and the world’s biggest registrar would benefit the industry.
GoDaddy is the most loved domain name registrar. Ironically, it’s probably the most hated registrar at the same time.
Respondents to DNW’s annual survey have selected GoDaddy.com as the best registrar for five years running. But it’s also true that a lot of domainers avoid the registrar like the plague.

GoDaddy Manages to Get SuperBowl Ad Banned -
One ad banned, but others approved.
Phew, that was a close call. GoDaddy’s media strategy around Super Bowl ads was almost thrown into the air as CBS approved some of its risque ads. Without a banned or censored ad, that would mean less pre-game media coverage.
But thanks to “Lola”, a flamboyant ex-football player turned fashion designer, GoDaddy can live another day. The ad is somewhat humorous, in typical GoDaddy fashion.

Domain name registrar GoDaddy is bulking up its customer service operations near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The new customer service facility should be running by this spring. The company is looking to hire 60 people in the next eight weeks, but the facility has 50,000 square feet and can accommodate 500 employees.

GoDaddy tops last year’s giving by $300,000.
With all of the negative news I’ve written about Go Daddy this year, it’s nice to end the year on an up note. Today the company announced that its total philanthropic giving for the year is $1.7M, topping last year’s $1.4M in giving. That’s about $1,000 per employee, a very respectable number.
