Sedo boosts domain auctions with “Last Call” - New auction option will increase activity in Sedo’s auctions. Sedo announced a new auction option this morning called “Last Chance Auctions”. The more I learn about it, the more I like the idea. Last Chance Auctions allow Sedo users to start a domain auction at a reserve of 99 USD/GBP/EUR. This is a good way for customers to get added exposure for domains they perhaps want to cull out of their portfolio. Currently, you must be a SedoPro customer to list domains ... read more ...

Zimbabwe.com seller takes outrageous loss - Zimbabwe.com sells for a fraction of what it sold for in 2007. We always hear stories about people who bought domains and flipped them for many times their purchase price. But the opposite also happens. Take the case of Zimbabwe.com, which just sold for $42,500 at Sedo. The last time this domain (reported) sold was in 2007. Purchase price: $130,000. It’s possible the domain also changed hands in 2008. Regardless of if it has changed hands since 2007, the domain ... read more ...

Technical Problems Postpone Moniker Auction - Auction postponed after web sites go down. If you tried to reach most of Oversee.net’s web sites this morning — Oversee.net, SnapNames, or Moniker — you probably ran into difficulty. The timing couldn’t have been worse for the company, which was scheduled to run a live domain name auction from Barcelona this morning U.S. time. The company has officially announced that the auction will be postponed, but the new date hasn’t been set. This isn’t the first ... read more ...

Domainer Personal Portfolio Auctions during Sedo - There’s a personal portfolio auction going on right now with some great values. Here’s something I wasn’t aware of: Sedo will run a portfolio auction for you through it’s auction system. That is if you have good domains at a good reserve. For an example, take a look at the Richard Whitney Portfolio Auction going on right now. Look quickly, because it ends at 12:30 EDT today. Whitney’s auction has a number of good deals that are (currently) priced very ... read more ...

Latona’s Agrees to Auction Zuccarini Names Without TRAFFIC Backing - TRAFFIC is out, but auction house still plans to auction domain names. After TRAFFIC organizers said they wouldn’t let a collection of domains previously registered to John Zuccarini be auctioned at their show, Rick Latona’s auction house has decided to auction the domains on its own, according to a court filing. The domains are part of a cybersquatting judgment originally won by Office Depot but later transferred to DS Holdings. The receiver in the case planned ... read more ...

Domain Auctions: Chill Out, But Let’s Re-examine - It’s time to step back and re-evaluate domain name auctions. The news today about an employee bidding at SnapNames is certainly disappointing. So here’s my take on what the domain industry should do. First, chill out. I’ve seen a bunch of comments today from people that now assume everyone who ever beat them in an auction is a fake bidder or scammer. Look, there are a lot of people out there who bid at the last second, bid in a lot of auctions, and bid to ... read more ...

Domain Musings: Where are a auctions, charity, more - A few thoughts I jotted down this weekend. Are there really two major domain name auctions at TRAFFIC later this month? It’s only a couple weeks away, and I haven’t seen a single list of domains yet… …How long will it be until PeopleofWalmart.com gets a UDRP? …One of the biggest ironies in the domain name industry is that Oversee.net doesn’t own Oversee.com. …There are two types of people in the domain industry: giving people and taking people. There ... read more ...

Rent.co.uk Domain Name Auction Clears $100,000 - UK domain name will clear six figures. The domain name Rent.co.uk is set to sell on Sedo this Friday for at least £65,000 GBP. That’s about $107,000 USD at today’s exchange rates. So far there’s only one interested buyer in the domain name, which would chart itself well for sales of .co.uk domains. 8q.com will also close on Friday. It has attracted two bidders and a top bid of $10,100. The most active auction at Sedo right now is for xoxide.com. It ... read more ...

Domain Name Auction Sites Need to Go Mobile - Placing a last second bid on a mobile phone is difficult. I’ve been watching the auction of 529.org on Sedo all week. As you may know, I own a web site related to 529 plans, so 529.org would be a great pickup for me. The auction ended at noon central time yesterday. I had a lunch meeting at the same time, so I decided I’d just login on my phone to place the bid. That didn’t work out so well. (I’m not a fan of leaving high proxy bids ahead of time, as ... read more ...

GoDaddy TDNAM Starts “Buy Now” Expired Domain Auctions - Expired domain auctions now have option to buy domains immediately. GoDaddy’s domain name aftermarket TDNAM has added a new wrinkle to its expired domain auctions. Bidders can now buy expired domain names immediately instead of bidding. Once someone bids on a domain, the “buy now” option goes away. The “buy now” option is not available on all expired domain auctions, and appears to only be on auctions with starting prices of $20 or more. The “buy now” ... read more ...
