.XYZ seeks to boot Verisign's consultant testimony - New TLD company claims some expert testimony should not be allowed.
.XYZ is asking the court to dismiss expert testimony from four expert witnesses in Verisign’s false advertising lawsuit against the new top level domain company.
Some of the court filings are heavily redacted, leaving out the juicy details many in the domain name want to know. All expert witness reports were filed under seal.

CB Insights: Covers World's Most Popular Non-.com Startup Domains, though Confused on New gTLD's -
CB Insights.com which covers the startup/ venture capital markets published an interesting post entitled “The Non-Dotcom Bubble: The World’s Most Popular Startup Domains Other Than .Com”
The story contains a chart tracking the most popular Non-.Com domain name extensions for funded tech companies from 2010-2015.
Of course since the first new gTLD didn’t launch until 2014, none are reflected in the chart.

Trump and Bible trending in .com domain name registrations - Donald Trump is making money…for domain name registrars.
Domain name registrations related to Donald Trump, the bible and Cuba were trending last month.
According to .com registry Verisign, the following keywords showed the biggest increase in registrations from June to July in .com:
1. owned
2. Cuba
3. savings
4. prices
5. Trump
6. SUV
7. economy
8. scope
9. bible
10. frog

Google's Alphabet Inc. Announcement Fires Up .com / .net Registrations - As we noted earlier today over 6,000 .XYZ new gTLD domain names were registered yesterday, after Google Inc. announced it’s holding company Alphabet Inc., using the domain name ABC.XYZ.
It is interesting though, as Mike pointed out that of the 6,000 newly registered .xyz domains registered yesterday hundreds of them related to ABC, Alphabet and XYZ.
I wanted to compare that to .com / .net domain registrations relating to those three terms.

Financial Highlights
Verisign ended the second quarter with cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities of $1.9 billion, an increase of $460 million as compared with year-end 2014.
Cash flow from operations was $175 million for the second quarter of 2015, compared with $121 million for the same quarter in 2014.
Deferred revenues on June 30, 2015, totaled $932 million, an increase of $41 million from year-end 2014.
Capital expenditures were $9 million in the second quarter of 2015.

Verisign admits: It is formidable to brand fascinating domain names that are available - Patent says it’s hard to find available domains, marketing says most domain lookups are successful.

These keywords saw a spike in registrations final month - Options, Limos among popular keywords in new .com domains.
Verisign has published its monthly “trending” keywords report, which finds keywords that have suddenly become more popular in .com domain name registrations.
Based on the results, it would seem a lot of people got rich off stock options, used the money to buy a Tesla and became used to the keyless entry, causing them to forget their house keys and have to call a locksmith.

Verisign found some great domains for the final five $5,000 winners in its Internet Official contest. All five were previously registered.

Nepal, Cuba and IoT are trending in domain names - News stories generate domain name registrations.
Verisign has released its list of trending terms in .com and .net domain name registrations last month.
A couple of terms are directly related to news stories: Nepal, which is recovering from earthquakes, came in at #8. Cuba, which is being opened up even more to the United States, ranked #4. (Read this story about a domain name investor who was really early for Cuba domain names.)

.Com domain name winners and losers - eNom and Uniregistry do well on transfers, GoDaddy and eNom lead in new registrations.
ICANN just published the most recent .com transactions report, reflecting registrar results for .com from January.
There were no major outliers from January in terms of .com transfers, but Google Domains made an appearance on the top gainers list. 9,770 domains were transferred to Google’s new domain name registrar. Verisign reports earnings, 1.51 million net adds - Company reports continued growth in domain name registrations and base.
Verisign reported first quarter earnings after the bell today, including some fairly solid numbers for new registrations and net additions in .com/.net.
8.7 million new .com and .net registrations occurred in the first quarter, up from 8.6 million in the same quarter last year. It’s not a big jump, but it’s headed in the right direction. That netted out to 1.51 million more names after accounting for deletions.

China Dominates 7 Out of Top 10 Trending Keyword Registrations For .Com Domains In March - Verisign’s has posted the top 10 trending keywords registered in .COM and .NET for the month of March
The word “China” was the top trending keyword for both .com and .net registrations in March.
The next three most trending terms in .Com were also Chinese words.
So the top 4 keywords registered in .Com were Chinese and 7 of the top 10.
Only appliance, Guys and Rehab were non-Chinese words (including China)
Certainly further proof buyers from China are moving the domain market and aftermarket

SEO Benefits Between .Com and Everything Else - This will probably be a controversial post as the topic has certainly been controversial. SearchMetrics.com published an article that took a look at the SEO benefits of .com vs every other extension. Do Domain Extensions Matter ? One investigate says if it is .Com, You Betcha - Website Magazine asked the question: “Do Domain Extensions Matter ?”
They went on to cite a recent study from Interbrand that stated 94 percent of consumers correctly recalled .COM while only 7 percent correctly recalled a new domain extension.

Survey says .Com performs improved than new TLDs - Survey says that people more likely to click and recall .com domain names.
Interbrand, ostensibly on behalf of Verisign, has released an infographic showing results from a 1,000 person survey about the power of .com.
The survey shows that people click on domain names ending in .com more than those in new TLDs. Consumers were shown search results pages with similar web addresses but different domain extensions. Verisign Report: There are Now 288 Million Registered Domains As Of Dec 31 - VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), today announced that 4 million domain names were added to the Internet in the fourth quarter of 2014, bringing the total number of registered domain names to 288 million worldwide across all top-level domains (TLDs) as of Dec. 31, 2014 in the domain industry report.
The increase of four million domain names globally equates to a growth rate of 1.3 % over the third quarter of 2014. Worldwide registrations have grown by 16.9 million, or 6.2%, year over year.
