The owner of Sermons.com and Clergy.net bought Pulpit.com for $25,000. Although Pastor.com is still in escrow, I’d bet its the same buyer. Another big sales was ... read more ...

Should domain marketplaces boost smallest bid requirements? - Is $60 or $250 too low for a minimum offer? Should you be forced to set something higher? It seems that Go Daddy’s inclusion of non-priced domains from Sedo set off the latest round of discussions about minimum offer prices, but it’s a discussion that’s been going on for years. Sedo has a minimum offer price of $60. The minimum commission is $50, but may be waived if you park your domain with them. Afternic has a minimum offer price of $250. Its minimum commission ... read more ...

Go Daddy starts display smallest offer cost alongside unpriced Afternic listings - Andrew, I had 40 offers via Godaddy/Sedo $60 special, closed 0 (ZERO). I followed up on a few of the domains, and saw some recent reg’s in lessor extensions, found out these were the people making the offers. They were clueless about the aftermarket process, and thought they could pay a premium of $60 instead of $10 to get the domain. I managed to close 3 deals on my own, each in the 4 figure range. If I had not followed up, most likely those inquiries may have sat idle for years, ... read more ...

Over 50 finish user domain sales including Paramount Pictures’ $65k purchase - End users close deals before the new year. A lot of small businesses buy domain names toward the end of the year. One reason is they want to get the purchase on this year’s books. That’s what one buyer told me the last week of December — “I’ll do it for this price if you can complete the sale by the end of the year for tax reasons”. That’s great for domainers but bad for my fingers. They’re about to fall off after doing this end user sales report for ... read more ...

What domains BASF and 13 other finish users bought this week - BASF among the big companies buying domain names last week. This week’s end user sales report is shorter than usual. That doesn’t mean fewer domains were purchased by end users. It’s likely a combination of two factors. First, more domains are still in the escrow process this week than usual. If they’re in escrow I have no way of figuring out who owns the domains. Second, there were companies with names in which I couldn’t easily figure out if they were ... read more ...

If a lead comes by a broker, we should compensate a broker - Give credit where credit is due. Yesterday I got an email from someone interested in one of my domains. “I found your domain on BuyDomains,” he stated. But he thought the price I listed on BuyDomains (via Afternic) was too high and wanted to negotiate. Rather than call BuyDomains to negotiate he emailed me directly. We worked out a price, and then I changed the price at BuyDomains to what we negotiated and told him to buy it through them. It could be tempting ... read more ...

What kind of domains are offered for underneath $1,000? - Some are obvious — but the delineation between under $1,000 and $3,000 is quite small. When Afternic sends its weekly sales reports it omits domains that sold for under $1,000. Yet understanding which types of domains are selling for three figures can be valuable for domain investors. Thankfully, Afternic’s updated web site shares a selection of domain sales from all price ranges. Here are some observations after sorting through some of the sub-$1,000 domains. 1. ... read more ...
