R.I.P. DNForum, 2001-2016 - DNForum has been offline for a week.
I’m calling it: DNForum is dead.
What was once the industry’s go-to place to discuss domain names has been down for a week. I’ve tried to contact forum owner Adam Dicker about it over Skype, but I have not heard back.
Dan Gessler founded DNForum in 2001. Domain name investor Greg Ricks purchased the forum from Gessler about a year later, and then Adam Dicker acquired it from Ricks.
DNForum used to be the place people went to get deals done, and there was ... read more ...

Attorney Joel Reinhardt of Gowlings sent a letter Friday afternoon to a number of people that posted complaints about Dicker on NamePros.
The letter states:
The post, made by username “Shane Bellone” is replete with highly damaging false, defamatory and malicious statements. The statements include that our client Mr. Dicker is “a predator” ... read more ...

GoDaddy gets obvious for Geo Domain tool -
First patent related to system for generating geo domain names is granted.
Back in 2009 GoDaddy released a geo domain tool that allowed you to find domain names specific to a location, e.g. AustinAllergists.com.
Last year I reported that GoDaddy filed three patent applications related to the tool.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has now granted a patent to GoDaddy covering the technology.
U.S. patent 8,489,746 is titled “Systems for suggesting domain names ... read more ...

Adam Dicker’s video blog is value checking out -
A great resource for new and old domainers alike.
I’m not a big fan of video, especially when the message can be conveyed in writing.
It’s why I always read the transcripts at DomainSherpa instead of watching the videos. It’s a lot faster.
That said, I think Adam Dicker’s new video blog is worth checking out.
Dicker has a long history in the domain industry. He’s best known as the owner of DNForum. But he also worked at iREIT and Go Daddy.
Each video covers ... read more ...

Pig.com Domain Name Sells for $125,000 -
NameMedia scores six figure domain name sale.
DNForum owner Adam Dicker has sold the domain name Pig.com for $125,000 with the help of NameMedia. Dicker purchased the domain name for $50,000 in 2006. In 2007 he was hit with a UDRP case brought by New Pig Corporation, but of course he prevailed in the case.
The company also sold one of its own domain names, Tortillas.net, for $9,300. If that looks familiar, it’s because the domain name sold through its listing ... read more ...

Recap: Domain Name Auction Firestorm -
Here’s a look back at the firestorm that hit domain auctions over the past two weeks.
It’s been a busy week at Domain Name Wire. And perhaps a busier week for GoDaddy. Here’s a run down of what took place and what it means for the industry.
It all started when a reader tipped me off to a thread at NamePros. The thread started out benign and was simply about the number of .us domain names going through auction at GoDaddy’s TDNAM and the high prices they ... read more ...

Canadian Domainers Feel Pain of Rising Loonie -
Rising currency values can actually hurt Canadian domainers.
Canada has launched its share of superstar domainers including Kevin Ham and Adam Dicker and domain companies such as Tucows (AMEX: TCX) and Live Current Media (OTCbb CMNN.ob). You’d think they are happy that the Canadian Dollar, also known as the loonie, has met parity with the U.S. dollar. But that may not be the case. Consider that they generate revenue mostly in depreciated U.S. dollars but have ... read more ...
