After 8 Months we Finally Get A Notice On The New gTLD Paid Orders With Minds+Machines - Back In December 2013, I placed some paid pre-orders for some .Horse domain names and wrote a blog post about it. At the time we noted that what MindsandMachines.com says about these domain name registrations which are live on their site: “This is Not an “Expression of Interest” but a real reservation. The master list of reservations is kept by the registry, the authoritative source. A registrar can only hold your place in “their” line — and they have to compete with other registrars ... read more ...

New Stealthier Ads Are A Big Hit For Google - John Koetsier wrote a very interesting piece on Venture Beat on how the new look of Google ads is boosting click through rates. Back in March Computer World explained, Google is testing some changes to the way it displays search results, including a tweak to how it presents paid links that could throw off unsuspecting users. Paid links in Google’s search results are marked today with a yellow shaded background. Under the experimental layout, which is being widely tested with users, a small yellow ... read more ...

Domain name owners loses UDRP, sues, gets $7,500 - MyArt.com owner can keep domain name and some cash. In April I wrote about how the owner of My-Art.com filed its second UDRP against the domain name MyArt.com and won. It was a bad decision based, in part, on an incorrect claim that the domain name was transferred to a new owner after the first decision. The owner of MyArt.com didn’t respond to the UDRP filing, but sued after the decision was handed down. The lawsuit, filed by law firm Lewis Lin LLC, claimed reverse ... read more ...

After a disastrous switch to a completely new registrar platform, many customers wanted to move their domain names to another registrar. Expired Domain Name sales results - Joseph Peterson reviews the past week in expired domain name sales. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So, rather than explain GoDaddy’s $6.8k sale of DivaZoo.com, let me just say, “See for yourself!”   This product line sells at mega-retailers like Amazon and Walmart but apparently has a wide distribution in smaller home decorating stores also. So if that brand is the buyer, then the domain’s price makes sense. (Note: I stripped the link’s ... read more ...

Aerospace meets cyberspace: aviation and the new gTLDs - One of the most interesting aspects of working in IP is seeing the very practical impact of the work we do. It’s most obvious in brand disputes, where one brand might have to stop a particular advertising campaign, or rebrand completely, but it’s equally present in the aviation sector. I was a regular commuter between London and New York for several years but before that I had acted on a patent dispute involving the inner workings of power units in commercial airliners: there ... read more ...
