Google Adsense Conspiracy a Fake ? -
At the end of April we did a post about an ex Google employee and their claims that Google was cheating publishers.
Jim Edwards of Business Insider is out with an article on the Google denial and why the conspiracy theory has one giant flaw.
From the article:
Google recently denied, vehemently, a gossipy conspiracy theory that suggested the search engine was stealing money from web publishers to fatten its own profit margins. The theory is fake — we’ll explain why below — but three sources ... read more ...
New gTLDs Will Work Way Better Than Vanity Domains Did -
There are updates in the domain name business that I have never been able to understand: one of them is called "vanity domain names". A vanity domain name is a domain that keeps on using the first and the second level domain, to form a keyword; the third level domain is sometimes used too. Good examples of these would be: webc.am or marmala.de, aud.it or del.icio.us.
Trends that work ...
Another trend that I do not understand is the use of specific country code top-Level Domains (two letter ... read more ...

In this week’s Expired Domain Report (EDR), Joseph Peterson takes a look at renewals of domains including the term “guru”, hits and misses in this week’s expired domain sales, and some domains to backorder for next week.

DNA Auction Plan to Reinvest Money Into Industry -
Love them or hate them, auctions are an unavoidable reality of the new Top-Level Domain (TLD) Program.
By their very nature, they create winners and losers. All that is in doubt is where the money goes — to the losing parties under a private auction model or to ICANN under their auction of last resort.
There are pros and cons for both models. But what if there was another way?
Instead of the two current options, what if the proceeds from auctions could be reinvested into the wider domain ... read more ...

Skeptical of the new gTLD insurgence? Finding the pièce de résistance — the … -
Will the launch of new gTLDs really transform the Internet as ICANN has envisioned? Without a doubt, the increase of gTLDs at the root level will create competition and diversity, and foster innovation — simply because the option is there. Innovation takes time and often does not happen until the tools to foster it are in place. With new gTLDs, however, also comes resistance, as there is with any new concept that has the power to change an industry and the way we do business.

.Expert Winds Up With Just Over 9K Registrations After 1st Day Of General Availability - .Expert has just over 9,000 registrations after the first day of general availability (GA)
The new domain extension had over 2,000 registrations going into the 1st day of GA which is far less than the start that .Guru got off to.
We have chatted about .Expert and how it would compare to .Guru, for a while and think the lower number of registrations con .Expert could be a result of what we think were high premium registration and renewal fees than for .Guru.
We saw domain names as high as $5,500 registration/renewal ... read more ...
