Google Treats New TLDs as gTLDs -
There is a thread in Google Product Forums’ Webmaster Central forum asking about TLDs being treated as generic. Although the question doesn’t specifically appear to be about ICANN’s new gTLD program, it garnered a response from a Google employee who mentioned the new domain extensions.
According to John Mueller, Webmaster Trends Analyst at Google, “we currently treat the new TLDs as gTLDs, even if they sound like they may be region-specific (eg .berlin).” This is interesting to ... read more ...

Does Google Glass Really Cost Just $80 to Produce ? -
There seems to be some discrepancy on just how much money it costs for Google to make their Google Glass product.
Sci Tech Today wrote about it Sunday,
Given the current price of $1,500 for Google Glass, how much could the tech giant make? A new analysis estimates that the actual materials cost just under $80, indicating the tech giant could really be raking in the cash. However, the powers that be at Google are contesting that as a low-ball figure, saying it simply isn’t accurate.

My thoughts on final month’s NameJet domain sales -
Some great deals and some questionable purchases.
NameJet just released a list of sales over $2,000 from April. Here are my thoughts on some of them…the last one being the most interesting.
Certifications.com $17,100 – I like this domain. There are thousands of certifications people can get, and many of them come with a fee. I’m not sure how many are offered online, but this domain could be a fantastic directory with an affiliate or lead gen model.

More domains registered…by the registry’s executive director.
Last month I wrote about the .rich top level domain name, which had a mere 22 domain names in its zone file. (It was actually just 21 because I counted a registry domain.)
After ICANN’s long hiatus of publishing zone files last week I was surprised to see the .rich zone file up to 36 domain names. At about $2,000 a pop retail, that would be a nice pick up.
Domains such as born.rich, howtobe.rich, ... read more ...

Decoding The Secret Messages in Chinese Domain Names -
Why the preference for digits over letters? It mostly has to do with ease of memorization. To a native English-speaker, remembering a long string of digits might seem harder than memorizing a word. But that’s if you understand the word. For many Chinese, numbers are easier to remember than Latin characters. Sure, Chinese children learn the pinyin system that uses the Roman alphabet to spell out Mandarin words (for example, the word for “Internet,” 网络, is spelled wangluo in pinyin). And ... read more ...
