Why is it so formidable to remember that TLDs have been practical for? -
The fact that there are so many of them makes it more difficult for me to recall which ones were applied for.
I live and breathe domain names, and research what’s going on with new TLDs on a daily basis.
But when I’m put on the spot and people ask me for examples of some of the new domain names coming out, I often freeze.
I can think of a few, but after that I start questioning to myself: wait, did someone actually apply for this domain about about to mention?

newgTLDs: A rising waves rises all ships! -
1. A registrant with a .com will not give up that .com and move to a new TLD
2. ccTLDs perform well in non-US locations inspite of .com mindshare
3. newgTLDs will expand the market
– Paul Stahura
I’m cautiously optimistic about newgTLDs, not surprisingly, since I’m also extremely positive about existing alternative TLDs and ccTLDs – both refashioned brands and those with a strong home base. In fact, I saw ccTLDs as a viable alternative back in 2007, when most people still scoffed ... read more ...

New gTLDs’ Success Drivers -
This post demonstrates that success factors differ across generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) depending on their implied signal/message. Success drivers can be grouped into four: community, location, generic keywords, and competitors to .com. I discuss their marketing implications.
For community gTLDs, their success, as measured by profits, depends on whether the registrants are nonprofit or for-profit organizations. The former's profits are driven by user satisfaction reflected in online reviews, ... read more ...

Daniel Schindler of Donuts Says gTLDs Better Than .Com But .Com Values Will Go Up -
In a blog post appearing in iparkavenue.com, Daniel Schindler of Donuts is quoted as saying gTLDs Better Than .Com.
You might expect that from a co-founder of a company which applied for 3x more new gTLD’s than any company on earth, however in all fairness Dan’s comment that a new gTLD is better than a .com seems to be limited to end users looking for available domain names:
Here are the most interest parts of the story:
