Washington Post’s 2014 In and Out List: .Com’s are Out, .EverythingElse is in - Xavier, I’ve been gathering some info/stats on all of the Fortune 500 company names the domain names they use. I know the list changes but IIRC, maybe a couple used .net and ALL of the rest used .com when I went through it. These companies are not going to gamble on switching to a .gtld They don’t need to. They can’t all have their own .brand either. Its bad enough that some of their names are close sounding; using the same keywords. ‘YourCompanyName’.com ... read more ...

Gucci wins 182 domain names in a UDRP - Gucci wins a lot of domain names in a UDRP decision. Italian design firm Guccio Gucci S.p.A. has won 182 domain names in a UDRP. It’s one of the highest number of domain names I’ve seen transferred in a single UDRP, although there have certainly been larger cases. The case was filed against Brian E. Nielsen of “Boise, New York”. There doesn’t appear to be a city of Boise in New York, and Gucci claimed the whois information was bogus. It also alleged that ... read more ...

The Internet of Things as short and concise as I have seen it described in  VentureBeat.com, is: “”A new era of ubiquitous computing is taking root and is a game changer. ” “Clearly, the Internet of Things (IoT) is no longer a buzzword but now starts at our fingertips and extends to our shoes, cars, and homes. Dawn of a new Internet — mechanisms to protect your brand - Many people have not yet heard or may not understand, but the Internet will expand vastly and quickly beyond the familiar .com, .org, and .edu top level domain names. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) launched an initiative in 2008 to enable the introduction of new generic topic level domains (gTLDs). The primary reason for the expansion is to promote competition in the domain name market while continuing to ensure the Internet’s security and stability. ... read more ...

Can you afford not to have a new Generic Top Level Domain? - Anyone who has ever tried to buy a house will know that location is everything. In London, house buyers will pay a premium for an average house in a sought-after postcode purely so they can utter those magic 3 words “NW3” or “SW3 at the end of their address. The internet is no different and with the recent launch of the gTLD program (Generic Top Level Domains), a whole raft of domain name suffixes has now become available, indeed Rich Merdinger cannily describes these domain ... read more ...

Domain Owner Alert: Whois corroboration phishing scams have already begun - New RAA requirement to verify your contact information is great news to scammers. Effective January 1, any domain name registrar that has signed on to the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement (that includes all of the big registrars) must verify certain aspects of whois contact information. Fallout From New gTLD’s: What If Everyone Loses? - After years of debating the topic of how successful the new gTLD program will be and what the effect of new gTLD’s will have on the value of existing extensions including .com. Mostly every post has wound up with people arguing whether .com’s will win or the new gTLD’s will win. Other including myself has voiced the opinion that many new gTLD’s can become quite profitable without any hugely negative effect on the value of existing domain extensions. Where Do You Register New Domain Names? - Most users who already use websites have heard about domain names and they know what they are. Although .COM domains are already very popular, they are no longer as appealing as they once were, because they don't mean anything as such and all of the cool, short names have long since been registered. In 2014, this will change with the emerging new domain names. I like to think that it is possible that, with the increased communications that exists around new gTLD and the fact that many of these ... read more ...
