Domain Owners Should Learn Lesson About Leaving Money on a Table - Deal or no deal? eNom leaves money on the table. Back in February I made an offer on a domain at AcquireThisName.com, an eNom affiliate. It wasn’t a great name, just a brandable that a friend was interested in. eNom wanted $6,000; my friend’s final offer was $400 since we were so far off. Flash forward to November and eNom is letting the domain drop, likely to earn little or nothing for the domain it could have had $400 or more for. Here’s an email I received ... read more ...

12,000 Auctions: The Halvarez Effect On Our Account (So Far) - Now that Snapnames put all  auction history into the system going back to its first auction in August 2004 (prior to that Snapnames gave the domain to the person who backordered it first) I can make a preliminary report. We were involved in 11,997 auctions from August 2004 until today. We know snapnames.com by its own admission had around 1 million auctions, so while my history only represents 1.2% of all their auctions, outside of Buydomains, Frank and the Ham’s, mine is probably one of the biggest ... read more ...

Will “Halvarez” Face Criminal Charges? It Maybe Up To You - With all the news from Oversee.net  this week regarding the SnapNames bidding Scandal, It’s still is unclear whether Oversee has or will ever press criminal charges against Nelson Brady for his participation in the shill bidding scheme. It seems the domain community thinks that Oversee is the only party that can ask for criminal charge to be brought, however, in my opinion, Oversee is not the only party that can ask for criminal charges to be brought. Isn’t anyone who participated in an auction ... read more ...

Arrington: Apologies Shouldn’t be Conditional - TechCrunch article questions Snap’s rebate requirements. Given the bad taste Michael Arrington’s has in his mouth from his time in the domain name industry, he’s laying down the heat on SnapNames and its bidding scandal. Today he wrote a second article about the scandal, saying that SnapNames’ request that customers sign a waiver to get their rebate is not right. Analyzing .Asia and .Tel Domains: What does it meant for new TLDs? - Considering .asia and .tel results, how many domains can a new TLD expect to register? What makes a top level domain name successful? If you compare any top level domain to .com, they are all failures.
