Do The Right Thing: Latona Cancels This Week’s Auction - Latona makes two smart moves. I was a little surprised to receive a press release from Rick Latona Auctions this week about an upcoming online auction, scheduled to start July 23. What concerned me was that I hadn’t heard about the auction until just this week and Latona was still accepting submissions. That could be a recipe for disaster. But hey, it’s his show. Today Latona made two great moves in one: he canceled this week’s auction and announced a new ... read more ...

Domain Name News Bytes for Wednesday, Jul 22 - A brief look at domain name news. .cm, .info, and other stories worth reading. Is the .cm landrush a blight on domainers? Chad Kettner thinks so. I tend to agree. Rightly or wrongly, it’s easy for the media to point to major domain name companies supporting the .cm landrush and saying “see, they’re all cybersquatters”. I also question the amount of .cm typo traffic. Personally, I think .co is much more common. You also wonder if parking ad feed providers ... read more ...

TechCrunch Covers Candy.com: Our Take - TechCrunch.com covers the sale of the domain, and launch of the site  Candy.com, this morning. So first let me congratulate Rick getting this deal done and retaining a piece of the new business. Now to the article and the comments. The stupidest comment in the article itself by far is: “The $3 million question for them: how quickly, if at all, will they make up for the price it paid” Wow. Would TechCrunch ask that on reporting an investment in a start-up. No. In another post from today, TechCrunch ... read more ...

Think Tank Loses Hilarious Arbitration for .Com of Its Name - Conservative “think tank” gets mud on its face by not registering .com domain name. Many domain arbitration decisions are dry reads. ICANN Has Little Power On ccTLD’s & UDRP’s Rarely Apply - Over the last week, I have talked about the .cm extension on several occasion (here, here, and here)  and in the comments to the post it appears there is a lot of confusion in the domainer community as to  ICANN’s role in ccTLD’s The short answer is,  they don’t have much. ICANN territory is Top Level Domains, the 21 existing TLD’s and the new proposed g’TLD’s Simply put ccTLD’s “are not subject to the rules for TLD’s that the ICANN community develops but in most cases are subject ... read more ...

Your May Not To Get To Use Your .CM Domains Until 2010 - Just a word of caution for those interested in going to .CM domains, it looks like you may not  be able to start using the domains until sometime in 2010. I noticed on Moniker.com site on the FAQ, where they are accepting pre-orders for .CM domains: “””How will I set name servers? “”Due to registry restrictions, you will not be able to freely change the name servers until early 2010 as determined by the registry. Until that time, all name server updates will be charged a processing fee, ... read more ...
