Last week Verisign released videos under its new marketing campaign “Make Your Idea Internet Official”.
The videos have been described in a number of ways, with “creepy” being one of them. Yeah, “Fish on a Bus” is certainly creepy.

Forbes: Verisign Becomes #1 Most Shorted Stock in S&P 500 - According to Forbes.com, Verisign Inc (NASD: VRSN) is now Most Shorted Stock in SP 500 based on most recent short interest data has been released by the NASDAQ for the 10.15.2014 settlement date.
According to nasdaq.com there are 19,441,435 shares of Verisign Stock being shorted as of 10.15.14 but more shares have been shorted in the past.
24,641,765 of Verisign were shorted back on December 31, 2013 and 23,218,994 back on March 31, 2014.

Thank the Chinese and discount pricing for continued demand for .com domain names.
Verisign handled 8.7 million new registrations in .com and .net in the third quarter this year, the most ever in a third quarter.
That amounted to 1.15 million domain names added to the namespace. The addition was basically all in .com, as .net continued a flat/slow decline.

Verisign Reports: .Com/Net Over 130 Million Domains; Revenue Up 4.7%; $1.5 Billion In The Bank - VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN) reported its results for the third quarter of 2014, reporting revenue of $255 millionup 4.7% from the same quarter in 2013.
Verisign reported net income of $95 million and diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.69 for the third quarter of 2014, compared to net income of $81 million and diluted EPS of $0.53 in the same quarter in 2013.
The operating margin was 54.7 percent for the third quarter of 2014 compared to 54.5 percent for the same quarter in 2013.

After slow second quarter, Verisign returns to health growth in net-adds in third quarter.
Verisign just reported third quarter earnings, and it appears to have been a pretty good quarter in terms of .com and .net registrations compared to the previous quarter.

Bad news for IDN.com investors -
Verisign still negotiating with ICANN over .com transliteration domain names.
Owners of IDN.com domain names that are patiently waiting for .com transliterations are going to have to keep waiting.
In an SEC filing today, and on its investor conference call, Verisign said it has received an extension to the deadline for negotiating its contracts for these domains with ICANN. The new deadline is December 31.

As Many As 5K .Com’s Taken Away By Sealed Court Order By Verisign Including Some Of Mine - Overnight I received a notice that several domain names I owned were transferred by a sealed court from Verisign without notice and of course without the court order.
The domain names just were transferred by Verisign to another domain and are now listed for sale at another marketplace.
Another domainer sent me an identical notice he received overnight on domain names he owned.

Trefis Research Says Verisign & .Com.Net Market Share Is At Risk From ccTLD’s - In an article from Trefis a stock analysis firm on Verisign out today cites ccTLD’s not new gTLD’s as the biggest threat to Verisign.

According to Verisign, (VRSN) which operates the .Com and .Net registry, the number of .Com domain names passed the 114 Million mark for the first time in history today.
The number of .Com domain names according to the Verisign Daily Zone Count is 114,017,341.

Verisign: Only 3% of New gTLD Domain Names Are Resolving To Business Websites - Verisign issued a report on new gTLD registrations through June 29, 2014, finding that 41% of all new gTLD registrations are parked and only 3% of New gTLD Domain Names Are resolving to Business Websites.
Of course Verisign operates the .com and .net registries and have a lot to lose in the new gTLD world, yet the numbers are the numbers.

Verisign (NASDAQ: VRSN), today published its Domain Name Industry Brief for the first quarter of 2014, and five million domain names were added to the Internet in the first quarter of 2014, bringing the total number of registered domain names to 276 million worldwide across all top-level domains (TLDs) as of March 31, 2014.
The increase of five million domain names globally equates to a growth rate of 1.7% over the fourth quarter of 2013.

Verisign has a wonderful license to print money.
Its contract with ICANN to run .com allows it to charge $7.85 per .com domain name registered. The company enjoys fat 55% operating margins as a result.

Verisign reported earnings yesterday and shares in the company are up 12% in trading so far today.
