Twitter and Facebook Gaining in Popularity when it comes to News - Twitter and Facebook are becoming go to sources for news An article published today on Marketing Land looked at a recent survey that showed Facebook and Twitter gaining credibility when it comes to getting news. I would say the one cautionary note about all this is the millions of spoof accounts out there, or sites that say they are parody and users still overlook that disclaimer, and treat the news as real. From the article: Americans increasingly see Twitter and Facebook as meaningful sources for ... read more ...

Twitter To Roll Out Mute Button - Twitter is finally coming out with a mute button. So this way someone can still follow someone but not be subjected to something like a Twitter blast. For example, there are people I follow on Twitter who every once in awhile decide to do 30 domain for sale tweets in row. I think one or two tweets about a name for sale, especially if it is at wholesale pricing or a bargain deal makes sense. When it is a sales blast, it can get annoying when someone does 30 in a row, some of these people I have good ... read more ...

Twitter finally gets Twiter.com domain it won in dispute - Over a half year later, Twitter finally gets high traffic typo. Last year Twitter filed a cybersquatting complaint against the owner of the Twiter.com domain name. Twitter was rightfully upset about the high traffic typo domain as it forward to a “survey” that mimicked the look and feel of Twitter’s own web site. Twitter dropped the case only to refile it shortly thereafter. A UDRP arbitration panel finally ruled in Twitter’s favor in November 2011. But that’s ... read more ...

Company Files Cybersquatting Claim Against Twitter Username - Can a Twitter username be cybersquatting? One insurance company thinks so. Here’s an interesting lawsuit I just discovered that attempts to stretch the bounds of the Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection act. But in addition to complaining about plain old trademark infringement, the company has thrown ... read more ...

Why I’m Not Going to Follow You on Twitter - A few quick ways to make sure I don’t follow you on Twitter. I use twitter daily. Not only do I post my recent blog posts, interesting articles, retweets of other’s tweets, and my thoughts, but I use it to get story ideas. But I have a few pet peeves: 1. My main pet peeve is someone who follows you just to try to get you to follow them back. Follow me because you’re interested in what I have to say, not because you want me to follow you back. The worst ... read more ...

Facebook Usernames Set Dangerous Precedent - An entire industry was created out of what many claimed was a near criminal act of extortion, calling it cybersquatting, a term even Network Solutions referred to concerning individuals and companies that register domain names on speculation that someone who wasn’t savvy enough to register the character string when it was available would be interested in buying it later. Once Congress got ahold of the issue and legislated what the term means, the meaning changed. Now it’s called ... read more ...

Tweet.me Sells for $11,505 - Twitter related .me domain names sells for five figures. The latest premium .me domain name auction is coming to an end, and Tweet.me looks to be the winner at $11,505.
