Only in its second year, the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. domain name conference is adding a third show to its roster – Silicon Valley. T.R.A.F.F.I.C. already holds shows in Florida and Las Vegas. This show might turn into the roving Search Engine Strategies conference over the next couple years.
Also coming up is the Domain Roundtable conference in Seattle April 18-21. You can read more about it here. Sedo just finished its first ever UK domain conference. I hope for ... read more ...

Domain Name Resources: URLTrends -
There are hundreds of free tools for domain name owners to analyze domain names. URLtrends.com is a great tool that I’ve been using recently, and it has been integrated into Sedo’s domain listings.
URLtrends aggregates a number of statistics about domain names and web sites. This makes it easy to evaluate domain names you want to purchase. For example, you can see URLTrend’s report about DomainNameWire.com here.
Among the statistics shown:
PageRank: 3/10

-DomainSponsor generic page RPM $35.79
-DomainSponsor optimized RPM $31.31
-Google RPM $34.66
-Of my domains receiving at least 100 views, the ... read more ...

GoDaddy’s Domain Name Aftermarket adds features -
GoDaddy faced lots of criticism when it first launched its domain name aftermarket service, TDNAM. One of the major problems was the long and indeterminate wait period for receiving domains after you won (see GoDaddy aftermarket – I finally got my domain). This has been resolved–the wait period is now fixed at two weeks. You still run the risk of the original registrant renewing the domain, but this chance is small.
TDNAM has some added features that make ... read more ...

Domain name companies strike by Hurricane Wilma -
Hurricane Wilma is having an effect on a number of domain name service providers. The Hurricane hit Florida just as the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. East conference concluded and also hit a number of Florida companies. DNJournal delayed its weekly sales report as it cleaned up and dealt with delays from domain name sales companies that usually provide it with statistics by Tuesday. Moniker and its paid parking service, TrafficClub, also reported heavy damages and asked customers ... read more ...

Review: Whois Source Whois.sc -
Serious domain name owners know there’s one Whois service that tops the rest: WhoIs.sc. Whois.sc offers four main services from its home page:
Name Spinner- enter a keyword to get 20+ suggestions for domains containing the keyword. It shows all major extensions for the domains (.com, .net, .org., .info, .biz, .us). This service is also used by many registrars through Whois.sc’s API.
Domain Explorer- enter a keyword and Domain Explorer brings up a list of registered ... read more ...

GoDaddy launches domain name estimation service -
The world’s biggest registrarGoDaddy has launched a domain name appraisal service. The company offers two services:
1. Express – receive your appraisal within 2 hours. This appraisal is based on top-level domain (TLD), length, number of words, number of hyphens, numeric characters, and desirability. The cost is $9.95. My opinion is that this service is a waste of money. You really can’t tell the value of a domain from just looking at these factors. Desirability ... read more ...

TrafficClub adding new Pay-Per-Click feeds -
TrafficClub has announced it is changing its pay-per-click feeds. SBX for adult traffic is being removed and another adult feed will take its place. TrafficClub is also hinting that it’s adding a couple other feeds. The more the better!

The End of Pay-per-Click? -
Are the days of pay-per-click over? Domain Sponsor is the first major PPC parking service to announce that they are no longer paying on a pure pay-per-click basis. As of this past week they pay more if people actually buy stuff when they click through your links. They will pay less if people don’t buy stuff. For this reason Domain Parking News is no longer recommending Domain Sponsor until we can fully evaluate the impact of this change.
Domain Sponsor has put ... read more ...

DomainMart launches domain name investment funds -
DomainMart is offering investors a chance to invest in managed domain name funds. Returns are in the form of PPC parking revenue and sales of domains in the investment portfolio. The initial service appears to be for all domains and has a $50,000 minimum investment. It is more of a managed individual account than a fund pooling service. You can see the prospectus here. Just looking at this prospectus makes me shiver. Would you trust a company with $50,000 when ... read more ...

ParkingSite upgrades templates -
ParkingSite has just updated its templates. Now you can have the same images on the top header as the side column. See an example here. This is much better than the old style which had sometimes irrelevant graphics on the right side (see NYCvacations.com for example).
See my review of ParkingSite here.

Sedo to horde UK domain name conference -
The T.R.A.F.F.I.C. domain name conference is next week, but traveling to the event from overseas is cost prohibitive for many people. I just received a message from Sedo that they are holding a UK conference this fall that will focus on the future of the .co.uk market. It looks to be interesting, especially for people on the other side of the pond.
Here are the details from Sedo:
Sedo is proud to announce its UK event which is taking place in central London on ... read more ...
MSN readies pay-per-click complement MSN adCenter -
MSN is gearing up for its entry into the pay-per-click search engine market to compete against Yahoo and Google. This will also create another option for paid domain name parking services to provide relevant ads.
I am participating in the MSN adCenter beta and will keep you posted on my results. You can apply to participate in the beta. Check out JenSense for details on how to apply.

Domain name discussion starts Oct 18 -
There’s just over a week left before the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. domain name conference kicks into high gear. This year’s Fall event, again held in Delray Beach, FL, is sold out with 250 registrants. Top attractions include a keynote address from Internet Real Estate Group’s Andrew Miller and Mike “Zappy” Zapolin and a live domain name auction featuring premium domains.
The event is managed by Howard Nue and controversial domain name investor Rick Schwartz. You ... read more ...
DomainSponsor to supplement non PPC links? -
A note at DomainSponsor says that its paid parking program is adding new features to boost revenue for domain name owners. The changes will integrate DomainSponsor with Oversee.net, which owns DomainSponsor.
After reading the note, my guess is that you will start to see pay-for-performance affiliate links on domain parking pages–when these result in higher revenue than PPC.

Should we buy domains on eBay? -
This weeks DNJournal mentions the sale of ULY.com on eBay for $1,699, which reminds me of a common question for domain name buyers: should you bother looking for domains on eBay?
First, let’s look at the positives. You can occasionally find a good deal on domains at eBay. ULY.com at $1,699 is a fairly good deal, and other domains have sold below market value. Another advantage is…well, I can’t think of any.
Now for the negatives. The first big drawback to ... read more ...

Parking Dots vs. Parking Site -
September was a fairly quiet month in the Domain Parking field. Sedo has been gradually increasing their PPC numbers, while Parking Site recovered nicely from August’s DNS attacks. Several services continue to experience growing pains.
Parking Site is a service developed by the Adam Dicker and his crew at DNForum. They use Google’s ads, but claim to offer a higher payout than other Google-based services. (As the Editor here pointed out, they actually claimed ... read more ...
Domain name cost comparison -
What’s the cheapest registrar for .com domain registrations? What about .org? What’s the cheapest way to backorder domain names?
You can find out at Midano.com. Midano.com is a price comparison engine for domain name services. It’s like PriceGrabber or Froogle but for domain names. Launched at the end of last month, it shows a lot of promise and should get even better as more domain extensions and registrars are added. Midano.com is another site to bookmark ... read more ...

ParkingSite.com paid parking review -
I’ve been promising a review of Adam Dicker’s Parkingsite.com parking service for quite some time. After initial excitement my revenue dropped, and so did my satisfaction. But I decided to give the service a chance before writing my initial review.
Let’s start with the good stuff. Parkingsite.com offers the most attractive templates of any parking service to date. You can choose header graphics from a number of categories, and each category has many different ... read more ...

Expired domain name marketplace consolidation -
Is Enom’s Club Drop doomed? Can Pool.com survive?
According to DNJournal, expired domain heavyweight SnapNames has signed an exclusive agreement with Register.com to snap its expiring domains. SnapNames already has a similar agreement with Network Solutions. Since these were the two large early registrars, they have some of the best expiring domains. Now Pool, Club Drop, et al can’t get their hands on these great expiring domains.
