Domain Roundtable Reviewed -
Domain Roundtable hits the mark in Washington D.C.
The past week has been a whirlwind. I arrived in Washington D.C. a week ago Friday for Domain Roundtable. I didn’t rest until getting home Wednesday night. Here’s my take on the conference.
Attendance – I estimate 150-175 people attended this year’s Domain Roundtable conference. That’s in line with other conferences lately, but I think it would have been much higher if it weren’t for unfortunate timing. ... read more ...

Epik Enhances Geo Domain Web Sites -
Epik releases new directory pages on city domain names.
When I met with Epik founder Rob Monster last week, he said the pace of development on Epik would be fast and furious. He wasn’t kidding. Within just a couple days, Epik has already launched an enhancement to location domain names on its network: directory pages.
Location domains originally only had the same type of content as other pages: a home page, related articles, pictures, and video. But now each ... read more ...

Latona will add needed spark to domain conference franchise.
TRAFFIC was the first big domain name industry conference. It was also the first to do many innovative things, such as offer a compelling live domain auction. But lately its star has faded. Attendance is down, and don’t just blame the economy. When I asked people before the last TRAFFIC if they were going, a common response was “It’s not relevant anymore”. They blamed lackluster programming ... read more ...

Publisher Who Sued Google Adsense Loses Appeal -
Man who originally won small claim against Google loses appeal.
Aaron Greenspan won a small claims court case against Google earlier this year. Google had canceled his Adsense account without providing a reason. The judge ruled that it can’t cancel accounts for any reason at all, and awarded Greenspan $761. Greenspan wrote an article for Huffington Post detailing the matter, which gained national attention. Google and appealed the case, which it won.

Advertising Geo Web Sites on Cable TV -
Cable TV might be a strategic advertising option for GeoDomains (and other web sites).
I’ve just signed a deal to buy cable TV advertising to promote Lakeway.com, my geo web site for Lakeway, Texas. The ads will run on CNN, FoxNews, AE, and a local news channel a little over 200 times each month. Here are my observations about cable TV advertising:

Whois History Important Part of Domain Due Diligence -
Use DomainTools’ whois history to research the history of a domain name you’re buying.
When you’re ready to shell out a bunch of cash for a domain name, it’s important to understand the ownership history of the domain name. There’s no title insurance for domains, so the onus is on you to make sure the domain isn’t stolen and has clean title.

My visit to company’s offices in Seattle.

Sedo Fixes Auction User Interface -
Auction page now easier to scan.
One thing has always baffled me about the auction page at Sedo: domain names were truncated at 13 characters even though there was plenty of space to list the entire domain. Like many things in web applications, fixing this was a challenge due to some legacy backend systems. But I’m happy to report that Sedo has fixed the glitch and most domains are no longer truncated:
A quick review of current auctions shows only a couple truncated ... read more ...

BrowserShots Checks Your Web Sites in Multiple Browsers -
Use BrowserShots when to check new web sites.
There are hundreds of versions of various web browsers in use, and each of them has its own quirks. I learned this when I launched the re-designed Domain Name Wire. (Thanks again to SiteGraduate for the redesign.)
There were two main browser issues we had to overcome. First, the site was just a bit too wide for most browsers when people used a 1024 resolution. 21% of Domain Name Wire visitors have a 1024 wide resolution. ... read more ...
