Amazon.com Buys CloudPlayer.com Domain Name -
Company gets domain name for its new music service.
When Amazon.com announced its music-anywhere service and corresponding Cloud Player a few months ago, it was missing a key ingredient — the domain name CloudPlayer.com.
It has belatedly fixed that problem.
On July 11 the whois record for CloudPlayer.com transferred to Amazon. It hasn’t yet started forwarding the domain name to its product page, however.
Cloud Player is the application to access your Amazon ... read more ...

Latona’s Adds Expense Details to Latest Web Sites for Sale -
More web sites for sale, this time with hard costs data.
Rick Latona has released a new batch of developed web sites for sale. This time around he has added expense details so you can get an idea of how much it costs to operate the site.
Still, the expense details don’t seem to take into consideration how much time the site operators spend on the site. You’ll want to find that out before placing an offer.
Included are two insurance lead generation sites. One ... read more ...
Branding Lesson: Cloud.com Was Much Better Than VMOps -
Domain name boosted VMops in the hot cloud market.
“Citrix Buys Cloud.com for more than $200 million”
That sounds much better than what the headline could have been:
“Citrix Buys VMOps”
Cloud.com started its life as VMops. But when Meetup.com’s founder put Cloud.com up for auction, VMOps took notice. In February 2010 the company acquired the domain name on the heels of a $17 million funding round.
I caught up with Cloud.com VP of Business Development ... read more ...

How To Quickly Get Your Domain Names on Afternic Premium -
Here’s the simplest way to bulk upload domains to Afternic’s Premium level service.
Listing domain names on services that offer syndicated, instant-transfer listings can be a bit of work. It takes more than just uploading your domain names; at a minimum you need to set prices and often times add categories.
Today I updated my Afternic Premium Promotion list by adding a couple hundred more domains that were in my Moniker account. Some of these were in my Afternic ... read more ...

Disc Golf Associations Buys DiscGolf.com Domain Name -
Company that “founded” disc golf buys DiscGolf.com.
Go to any major park in Austin during the day and you’ll see people “throwing plastic”, a.k.a. playing disc golf. If not trademark attorneys are around you might also call it “frisbee golf”. It’s like golf but cheaper and less pretentious.
Heck, the church down the street dedicated much of its green space to an 18 hole disc golf course designed by a famous course designer. So apparently God approves ... read more ...

Sedo.com Sells Fr.cc for $50K Wow - Maybe lost in the Sedo.com sales report this week was this stunner;
FR.cc sold for $50,000.
By far the largest .cc domain sale I can remember for a very, very long time.
The domain is still pending transfer so its unclear who the buy is but its quite a price for a two letter .cc as two letter .net’s and org’s have sold for much less.

Domain Names End Users Bought This Week -
8 examples of end users buying generic domains for their businesses.
As I did with last week’s sales report, I’m taking a look at some of Afternic’s sales to end users for the week.
Laser Spine Institute bought GoodbyeBackPain.com for $2,880. Goodbye back pain, but also a “good buy”.
JS Tour and Travel, which specializes in tours to the Caribbean, Hawaii and Mexico bought cancunfishing.com for $2,588.
Andover, Massachusetts jewelry and watch store Royal ... read more ...

Sedo Ups Commission Rates -
Typical sales will see a 5% fee increase.
Sedo has increased its commission rate on most transactions occurring directly on its site.
The typical sale on Sedo.com will now carry a 15% commission, up from 10%. The commission is still 10% if the domain is parked at Sedo and it is sells through a fixed price.
Sales on Sedo’s MLS system carry a 20% fee.
These commissions seem directly in line with Sedo’s biggest competitor, Afternic, with a couple differences. Afternic’s ... read more ...

Domain Investor Brian Wick Sells Minus.com For $115,000 - Domain investor Brian Wick has sold the domain name, Minus.com for $115,000.
Brian said he acquired the domain in January 2007 at a Network Solution pre-drop auction for $8,100.
So basically a 15x return in just 4 years, in a horrible economy.
The buyer according to Mr. Wick is the buyer is a “math educational non-profit startup” but the whois record has the domain under privacy.
In any event its a nice price for that domain and a hell of a return.
Congrats to the Brian and the Buyer.

Early bidders will earn cash back.
Francois Carrillo, the guy behind Domaining.com, is getting ready to launch a new cash back program for bidding on his CAX.com domain marketplace.
The program will reward both the initial bidder in an auction and the second highest bidder with 2% of the sales price.
For example, if you are the first bidder and three people bid in an auction but you don’t win, you’ll get 2% of the sales price.

Sedo.com own site as late as today was still showing the sale at 150,000 Euro’s.

What Domain Names Bain and Other End Users Bought from Afternic This Week -
A look at end user domain buyers from the past week.
Afternic’s extended network of domain name sales sites brings in end users. I thought it would be interesting to take a look at some of the company’s $600,000+ in domain sales for the past week and who the buyers were.
Consulting firm Bain bought Repeatability.com for $4,000. Sounds like a strategic consulting name to me!

School Equipment Company Buys MarkerBoards.com and Other Sedo Sales -
A review of this week’s domain sales at Sedo.
Apparently my review of Afternic sales earlier today in which I showed who the buyers were struck a chord. I’d like to do the same thing with Sedo’s results, except that most of the domains are still in escrow whenever they send out their list.
But I’ll try, and perhaps sometimes I’ll go back and pull in some sales from the previous week that now have updated whois information.
Here’s a match made in heaven: ... read more ...

Microsoft Lists Over 100 Domains For Sale on Sedo -
Company gets proactive with domain sales.
Yesterday I wrote about Microsoft’s sale of Do.com. Last month Microsoft finally relented and sold HotList.com to startup TheHotList.com.
But it appears that Microsoft might also be proactively selling some of its domain names.
Abdu Tarabichi noticed that the software giant has listed over 100 domain names for sale on domain marketplace Sedo.

Social.com Domain Name Transfers to Buyer’s Broker -
Looks like the payment went through for Social.com.
Social.com, which Ron Jackson says is under contract to sell at $2.6 million, has an updated whois.
As of today, the whois record at Network Solutions says the owner is New Yorker Kevin Bingo. However, the whois record is not complete with an address nor does it have a valid phone number.
Furthermore, it appears this is the buyer’s broker for the domain name, not the buyer.

“I Want To Be A Billionaire” Sedo.com Sells Billionaire.com For $215k - What’s better than a million dollars, a billion dollars; so the line from the move goes, or it you prefer line from A song “I want to be a billionaire”
Well Sedo just brokered the domain name Billionaire.com for a lot less than that $215,000 to be exact.
The broker on behalf of Sedo was Frank Alello.

$2.6 Million Social.com Sale Could Make Moniker Auction a Big One -
