Monte Cahn has filed a response (pdf) to Oversee.net’s motion to dismiss certain claims he brought against his former employer.
One of the more interesting claims in his response relates to the Moniker acquisition from Seevast and how it may have violated Oversee.net’s contract with ad provider Google:

Irony Alert: Jillian Michaels Protests Treatment of Elephants -
No joke: Go Daddy girl to protest alongside PETA in defense of circus elephants.
How’s this for irony: fitness guru and GoDaddy Girl Jillian Michaels is joining with PETA to protest Ringling Bros. circus and its treatment of elephants.
I’m not kidding.
In case you aren’t familiar with the story, GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons shot an elephant in Africa this year. It’s not the first time he’s done it, but the story went viral this time and a number of people ... read more ...

With Lock Up Period Ending, Demand Media Shares Hover during $11 -
With one week to go, Demand Media shares hit fresh lows.
Next week ends a 180 day lock up period in which many Demand Media option holders can finally sell their shares in the company.
Unfortunately for them, shares are now trading at only $11. That’s well below its $17 opening price for its debut in January, when the share price promptly shot up to $23.50. The stock peaked at $27.38 before beginning its precipitous fall.
That doesn’t mean you need to feel ... read more ...

Go Daddy Gets Gripe Site NoDaddy.com -
Go Daddy gets control of NoDaddy.com domain name.
GoDaddy.com now owns NoDaddy.com, Kevin Murphy reports for The Register.
NoDaddy.com was set up as a gripe site after the domain registrar suspended the registration of security mailing list SecLists.org.
Since then it has been a gathering place for customers and ex-employees of the world’s largest domain name registrar. They aired their grievances there, often times sending traffic to Domain Name Wire articles ... read more ...

Domain Registrar Offers Social Login to Registrar Account -
Australian domain register lets you login with your Facebook account.
Domain name registrar Whois.com.au has enabled social login functions to access your registrar account. In other words, instead of logging in with your registrar credentials you can login with Facebook, Twitter, etc.
I’m not aware of any other registrars that offer this, but I’m sure there are some off my radar.
My first reaction was that this scares me. If your Facebook account is compromised ... read more ...

In Case You Missed It, Friday Was Not a Slow News Day in a Domain Industry -
Biggest domain name company transaction ever announced just before the U.S. holiday.
The Friday before a holiday weekend is usually a slow news day. But I heard some whispers Friday that Go Daddy was going to make a big announcement, hence my tweet around noon.
Indeed, a few hours later Go Daddy announced that it took an investment from KKR, Silver Lake, and Technology Crossover Ventures.
I talked with GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons Friday evening. Since most of my ... read more ...

Breaking: Go Daddy Takes Investment from KKR, Silver Lake, and TCV -
Go Daddy takes investment but doesn’t sell out.
Read my interview with Bob Parsons about the sale here.
Bob Parsons didn’t end up selling the company after all.
But Go Daddy just announced it has entered into a partnership with KKR, Silver Lake, and Technology Crossover Ventures in which the three will make an investment in the company.
There had been rumors that KKR and Silver Lake were in talks to acquire the company for over $2 billion.
It’s interesting that ... read more ...
Bob Parsons Explains Go Daddy – KKR Deal to Domain Name Wire -
Investment makes 36 millionaires, will help company expand overseas and acquire complementary businesses.
I just got off the phone with GoDaddy.com founder Bob Parsons, who explained the deal his company just struck with KKR, Silver Lake, and Technology Crossover Ventures.
Contrary to reports in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, this was not an outright acquisition. Parsons remains the single largest shareholder in the company in what he terms a “partnership”.

Go Daddy Could Shake Up Domain Registry Market -
Registrar could take a big chunk of back end services business for new top level domain names.
Last week new TLD consultancy Minds + Machines announced flat rate registry services pricing of $100,000 per year. Apparently this is the first time there’s been “transparent” pricing in the registry business, although the pricing doesn’t apply to super-generic top level domains (i.e. ones that get a lot of volume).
Although this might lay it out on the table a ... read more ...
My Thoughts on a Go Daddy Buyout -
What a Go Daddy sale would mean.
If the chatter is to be believed, The Go Daddy Group could announce a multi-billion dollar buyout sometime this week.
While neither Go Daddy nor the buyers will confirm or deny this, it’s typical for bankers involved in the deal to leak news like this. It helps bring other potential suitors to the table and puts pressure on the buyers to close the deal.
Go Daddy has been shopping itself around unofficially for a while. Word is ... read more ...

Moniker founder Monte Cahn has filed an amended lawsuit against Oversee.net, which purchased Moniker in 2007 from Seevast.

Stock Market Doesn’t React to New TLD Approval -
Shares of domain name companies hardly budge.
In the grand scheme of things the introduction of new TLDs is trivial. But to domain name companies it’s a big deal.
Apparently investors in some of the companies that may be affected either don’t understand it or had already priced approval into the stock prices.
Shares of Top Level Domain Holding, a pure-play new TLD company, are down about 4% as of right now. Granted, the company had already told shareholders ... read more ...

Go Daddy Wants To Challenge Amazon and RackSpace in a Cloud -
Web host and registrar to offer extensive cloud services.
GoDaddy is rolling out a new cloud based served called Data Center on Demand, reports GigaOm.
The service is squarely aimed at on demand services such as Amazon’s EC2. However, it will be sold more like hosting packages with various tiers of service rather than charging based on hourly use (a la Amazon). Go Daddy is also up front about users needing to have strong technical skills; this isn’t geared to ... read more ...

Go Daddy Sued for Sending Domain Renewal Notices -
Does sending renewal reminders violate patents?
This isn’t meant to be a shock headline. It’s true.
WhitServe LLC has filed a patent infringement lawsuit (pdf) against GoDaddy.com based on the renewal notices it sends to customers. WhitServe says the method by which Go Daddy sends these notices and allows customers to renew their expiring domain names violates two of its patents:

The Question Is Why Did Godaddy Triple Its Fees Without Sending Out A Notice To Its Customers? - So I saw the blog post of DomainNameWire.com today which refers to a post by Hybrid Domainer:
“””Go Daddy Auctions has increased its sales commission three-fold from 5% to 15%.
This change was noticed by Hybrid Domainer earlier today.””
So my issue is a simple one.
Why did a blogger have to “notice” a change where Godaddy tripled its rate?
Why didn’t Godaddy send out notices to its customers or even bloggers well in advance of such an increase?
TheDomains.com gets notices, lets call ... read more ...
