A study conducted by Nielsen at the request of ICANN shows how most people are still unaware and distrust new Top Level Domain (TLD) extensions like .email, .link, .party, .photo, .systems, .tips, or .wiki.

At least 46% of users are aware of new domain names, according to a recent survey commissioned by The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
The ICANN Global Consumer Research Study, Phase One, carried out by Nielsen in February, showed that 46% of respondents were aware of at least one new generic top-level domain (gTLD) landscape and the domain name system (DNS). Inc.com Says Guru & Ninja Are 2 of the 12 Worst Things You Can Call Yourself … - An interesting post by Inc.com on the worst things you can call (or refer) yourself on Linkedin and out of the 12 words you can use the authors says that two of the words are also new gTLD’s.
“There are so many terrible words people use to make themselves sound exciting on LinkedIn.”
Guru and Ninja both make the list.
If these words are bad to refer to yourself on linked in by the same logic if you buy it they would also be bad to use as your domain name.

46 Percent Of Internet Users Are Aware Of New Domain Extensions [Survey] -
Almost half of internet users say they’re familiar with the new, generic top-level domains (gTLDs) that have become available to website owners in the past 18 months, while legacy domain extensions like .com, .net and .org have almost universal awareness.
That’s from an ICANN-sponsored, Nielsen-conducted online survey in February of more than 6,100 adults across 24 countries. The survey targeted consumers that spend a minimum of five hours a week online.
