About 100 ANA members request for new tip turn domains -
Around 20% of Association of National Advertisers members applied for new TLDs, but many may have been defensive.
One of the most outspoken — and tardy — groups to lobby against ICANN’s expansion of the internet namespace was Association of National Advertisers (ANA).
The group lists close to 500 members on its web site, and it appears that around 100 of them ended up applying for new top level domains. (I count 92, but it’s very hard to get this precise ... read more ...
Honey, we screwed adult on my $185,000 new TLD application -
Several new top level domain applicants make errors in their applications — including a misspelling of the word “logistics”.
I’ve found three instances of typo’s or errors in new top level domain applicants’ strings. I’ve reached out to ICANN to find out if the applicants will be afforded an opportunity to fix these errors as I can’t find anything in the guidebook about it. Logic would say yes in the case of an uncontested string.
One obvious typo ... read more ...

Coming soon, .africa and .dotafrica.
There were certainly some interesting top level domain applications released today. But it looks like a few companies made mistakes — or wasted some money at the very least.
First, some have reported that they were surprised to only see one .africa application. After all, DotConnectAfrica said it was going to still apply for the domain despite dispute over support of African governments. But then today’s list shows only one ... read more ...

Surprise? Facebook doesn’t request for .Facebook -
Facebook doesn’t apply for any top level domains.
Back in April AdAge reported that Facebook wasn’t applying for a new top level domain. I found that surprising, and wrote:
Of course, it’s entirely possible that AdAge just didn’t talk to the right person within the companies. A Facebook spokesperson told AdAge that the company wasn’t apply for .Facebook, but you never know.
I later contacted Facebook after the application period was closed, thinking the ... read more ...

New TLD Battle: .Eco vs. .Green -
TLDH hedges its bets with .green bid.
On May 7 I tweeted:
The answer is “yes”.
Top Level Domain Holdings, one of the companies embroiled in a battle over .eco, has applied for .green. It could merely be a calculated bet by TLDH given the potential for a hold up on .eco. .Eco has long been contested, has a trademark fight, and is now in court.
