CIRA CEO Says Half Of All New gTLD’s Will Fail - In an article published by itbusiness.ca, the CEO of the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA), Byron Holland said that 50 percent of all new gTLD’s will go out of business in 2-3 years.

ICANN “Targeting” May 22 As Re-opening Of TAS: Big Reveal Still Unknown But Prague Looks Likely - According to a statement issued overnight, ICANN is “targeting 22 May 2012 as the intended reopening date for the TLD Application System.”
“It is anticipated that the system would remain open for five business days and close on 30 May. This takes account of the 28 May Memorial Day holiday in the United States.”
“We have met our commitment to provide notice to all users on or before 8 May 2012 by sending out notifications today.””The large majority of users are unaffected by the glitch.”

Demand Media Reports: Beats Expectations Sends Stock Soaring & Spends $18M On New gTLD’s - Demand Media, Inc. (NYSE: DMD) just reported its earnings for the 1st Q of 2012 beating expectations and sending the stock soaring in aftermarket trading up almost 20%
Some interesting stuff in this report including that Demand invested $18 Million in new gTLD’s.

ICANN Offers Full Refund To Any Applicant For A New gTLD Which Pulls Its App Before The Big Reveal - In an Announcement tonight, ICANN is offering to refund any applicant who has submitted and paid its fee for a new gTLD if they pull their application prior to the Big Reveal.

Beckstrom: ICANN May Deny New gTLD Applications If They Got An Unfair Advantage In Seeing Others Info - Rod Beckstrom the CEO of ICANN just told theHill.com, that applicants who looks at other applicants info in an attempt “to gain an unfair edge over their competitors” may have their own application denied.
In an interview with The Hill, he noted that ICANN has “ultimate authority” over approving all applications and said the organization will examine whether any groups used a recent system glitch to look at the applications of their rivals.

ICANN Pushes Off TAS/ New gTLD’s Off For 7 More Business Days, We Predict Big Reveal For May 31st - According to a statement released by ICANN tonight, it appears the TAS system is at a couple of weeks away from being re-opened.
Today was the day that ICANN promised a week ago it would give a date for the re-opening of the TAS system and for the Big Reveal

Lawley Tells Bloomberg There Are 250K .XXX Domains Under Management & Applied For .Sex, .Porn & .Adult To Protect Holders - Stuart Lawley the CEO of ICM Registry who operates the .XXX TLD had an interview on Bloomberg TV on Friday to chat not only about .XXX but its application to run multiple new gTLD’s. WOW: ICANN Now Pushes UPDATE On TAS & New gTLD Program Off Until Apr 27th - In a release by ICANN tonight they are now giving themselves until April 27th to give update on when the TAS system will even re-open and an a updated for the date of the “Big Reveal” where ICANN will announce who applied for what.
Also in tonight’s release is the information that once the TAS system re-opens it will reopen for “at least 5 days”, which is more than the 3 day period previously announced.

60% Of Domain Industry Thinks There Will Be Over 5,000 New gTLD Applications - We have been running a poll at TheDomains.com for 20 days asking “How Many New gTLD Applications Will Be Submitted?”
To date there have been almost 470 responses with 60% of the respondents picking over 5,000 application as their answer.

ICANN Knew About The TAS Problem On Mar 19th -
In a statement just issued by Akram Atallah, COO of ICANN it appears ICANN was first notified on the problem with the TAS system that allowed users to see other users files on March 19th.
As we know ICANN didn’t shut the system down until April 12th.

ICANN Will Start To Accept New gTLD Applications On Tuesday - According to one report ICANN will re-open the TAS system and start accepting new gTLD applications on Tueday.
According to the Guardian.co.uk, ICANN will re-open the TAS system to accept applications for new gTLD’s at “23.59 GMT on Tuesday for three days, and finally close on Friday 20 April at 23.59 GMT. ”
GMT is the same time as UTC.
Although I haven’t read or heard any “official” word on what happened to the TAS system or what the current status is, this report makes sense.

TAS Crashes & New gTLD Application Deadline Is Extended Until Apr 20th - ICANN just announced that the TAS system which is the mechanism by which companies file their application for new gTLD’s crashed and therefore was extending the time to make application from April 12th until April 20th, 2012.
The official new closing time to make application is 23:59 UTC on Friday, 20 April 2012.

Why Can’t ICANN Operate Like Mega Millions & Give Us A Date & TIME For The Big Reveal - In teasing us with a date for the big reveal for new gTLD applicants ICANN has left off something pretty important.
The time.
While announcing the April 30th as the date for the big reveal, they didn’t announce at time or even which time zone they would be using.
ICANN typically works off of UTC time zone which at this time of the year is 4 hours ahead of EST so midnight April 30th is really 8 PM EST April 29th.

UPDATED: Quick Poll: How Many New gTLD Applications Will Be Submitted? 44,100 is Possible - Now that ICANN updated the number of paid users to the TAS system to 839, with several days remaining its probably fair to say there will be at least 900 users by the time final figures are remaining.
We know that each user can submit 49 applications, making it possible if the final number of users is 900, there could be 44,100 applications if each registered user put in the max number of applications.

Quick Poll: How Many New gTLD Applications Will Be Submitted? - We are now less than one month from April 12th, the last day an application for a new gTLD can be submitted.
We now know that 294 people have paid $5K to put in an App of course each registered user can file 49 apps so the number of actually apps submitted to ICANN is higher but ICANN for some reason refuses to release the number of apps received just the number of registered users.

New Study: Almost Half of Major Consumer Brands Set to Apply for a Dot Brand Top-Level Domain (gTLD) - According to a study commission by Afilias, almost Half of Major Consumer Brands Set to Apply for a dot Brand Top-Level Domains.
The USA / UK survey, was conducted by Vanson Bourne, and found that 82% of major brands are aware of the opportunity to apply for a dot Brand TLD, and that of those “aware” 54% of those companies intend to apply for a dot Brand TLD.
