ICANN: No New gTLD’s Last Resort Auctions Until Early Mar 2014 - In a webinar held by ICANN today on its Last Resort Auction for new gTLD strings in contention, ICANN stated that no new gTLD ICANN last resort auction will be held in 2013 and most likely not until March 2014.
Moreover the ICANN schedule is 10-20 auctions per month, with no applicant being able to participate in more than 5 auctions per month.
So a company like Donuts which has over 100 applications in contention, based on the current time frame could be looking at a couple of years to settle ... read more ...

Verisign Rolls Out 4 Part Series On Why Second Level Domain Blocking For New gTLD’s Isn’t Good Enough - Verisign just published the 1st of a new 4 part series on the potential collision issue arising from new gTLD’s this one authored by Burt Kaliski.

ICANN Issues Rules For Last Resort Auction But Fails To Address Many Of Applicants Concerns - ICANN published rules for its Last Resort auction last night.
To bid in an auction each applicant will have to put up 10% of its maximum bid and if they want to bid an unlimited amount or more than $20 Million they have to put up $2 million per string.

Famous Four On .Sport Decision “We Will Rigorously Pursue All Legal Avenues To Have It Reversed” - Famous Four Media issued a statement on the ICC decision granting an objection to Famous Four Applications for .Sport, finding that the other applicant for the gTLD. Sport, SportAccord represented the community of Sports, saying that they intend to “rigorously pursue all available legal avenues available to it to have the decision independently reviewed by ICANN and/or others as the case may be, and reversed.”

Losing Private New gTLD Auctions For .Lawyer & .Website Net Top Level Domain Holdings $4.8 Million - Top Level Domain Holdings (LON:TLDH) said by losing the private auctions for .website and .lawyer, which concluded on Oct. 23, it will add £2.97m ($4.81m) to its cash reserves.

1and1.com new gTLD pre-registrations just topped the 3.5 million mark and for the first time the domain name registrar is showing the top 30 new gTLD’s with the most pre-registrations.
1and1.com had only been showing the top 20 new gTLD based on pre-registration volume.
