Some Interesting .Email Domain Registrations & The Dallas Cowboys Miss Again - As we said in an earlier post today we went through the zone file for .Email to see what people have been registering. We noticed some interesting registrations. The Dallas Cowboys which has an illustrious history when it comes to domain names, just missed again not applying for the domain name cowboys.email, in Sunrise and the owner of the domain is now Cowboys Concert Hall, Inc  which is also out of Dallas. I couldn’t help miss the registrations by a organization out of Los Alamitos, CA named Viva Las Vegas who wound up getting a great domain in LasVegas.email, but went after and got domain names matching some trademarked and well known companies. TMCH Has Caused More People Not To Register 450K Domains, As New gTLD’s Pass 350K - The Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH) said today that is has delivered  500,000 Claims Notices (CNIS) of which 95% of the queries for trademark terms are not being followed through to a live registration. Sedo Macau Auction Concludes With Close to $200,000 in Sales - In what was an interesting way to follow an auction, Sedo concluded their Macau auction this morning and they were updating people on Twitter as the auction ran. They actually set up a Twitter handle for the auction,  @twitter.com/macauauction The account  had 20 followers and they made close to 400 tweets. Godaddy Loses 5% Market Share of New gTLD’s As .Berlin Changes The Game - Godaddy.com share of the new gTLD market dropped 5% overnight after the domain extension for .Berlin launched getting almost 32,000 registrations German based registrar, InterNetX said they were able to secure 81% of all preregistrations for its clients, “making it the #1 registrar for .BERLIN domains in the B2B sector”. Godaddy.com which had just under 40% of the new gTLD market as a domain name registrar share is now sitting right below 35%. .Berlin Does over 31,000 Registration In 1st Day; 20K in 1st Hour -   The first city new gTLD launched yesterday and .Berlin did over 31,000 registrations. .Berlin first day total was 31,956 making it immediately the 2nd most popular new gTLD only to .Guru which has around 44,500 registrations. By contrast .Guru only did 9,500 registrations on its first day of general availability. Swimsuit.Photos Auction Closes during $3,550 At Godaddy & People Paid $700 To Bid on It - The new gTLD domain name Swimsuit.Photos closed on Friday for $3,550. The domain name was auctioned off by Godaddy.com who had multiple applications for the domain on the 4th day of registrations, which is part of Donuts Early Access program (EAP). The cost for an EAP 4 day registration is around $700 at Godaddy depending on the domain. New gTLD’s Registered With Word “Eco” Are Being Take Back: On ICANN’s Restricted List - As we just went to tape this weeks DomainSherpa.com discussion show, a fellow Sherpa, Page Howe, brought it to my attention that new gTLD domain names that have the word Eco on the left of the dot were in the process of  being taken back by the Donuts Registry. Brands Finally Find A New gTLD They Like For Sunrise .Company has a Few Hundred - Much has been made of the lack of Sunrise applications and Brands seeking their matching trademark or brand domains in the new gTLD rollout. 14K of Enom’s 23K new gTLD Registrations Are From NameCheap - Yesterday we reported on the top 20 domain name registrars in terms of new gTLD domain name registrations. The domain name registrar in second place on the list was Enom with 23,167 new gTLD domain name registrations. Today the CEO fo NameCheap.com Richard Kirkendall told TheDomains.com that of the 23K domain name registrations of Enom.com, NameCheap.com accounts for over 14,000 of them. Godaddy Has 40% Of The New gTLD Market; 1and1 For Its $50M Got 12K Registrations - A new site (or at least new to me) is showing the most detailed stats I have seen for new gTLD’s. According to ntldstats.com, there are a total of 215,638 new gTLD domain registrations as of 16:30 (time zone not defined) on March 6th. According to the site, Godaddy registered almost 87,000 of the 215,000 new gTLD’s giving it a 40% market share. 1and1.com which spent a reported $50 million dollars on a  advertising campaign to promote the new gTLD’s is in 4th place with some 12,388 registrations ... read more ...
