Amazon Wins The .Free New Domain Extension Beating Google, Donuts, Uniregistry M +M - Amazon has won the rights to operate the .Free new gTLD.
Amazon beat Google, Donuts, Minds +Machines, and Uniregistry in a private auction to win the rights to .Free
.Free was scheduled to go to an ICANN Last Resort Auction later this month.
Amazon already won the rights to the .buy new gTLD which is pretty much the opposite of .free
It will be really interesting to see what Amazon plans to do with .free.

TheRegister.co.uk Publishes Story on New gTLD's: They Think The Period To Apply Is Still Opened - TheRegister.co.uk, just published a story today on the new gTLD program and it contains plenty of very basic factually inaccurate statements about the program.

Is The Trademark Clearinghouse Causing New gTLD's To Lose 6X The Number Of Registrations? - Phil Corwin of the Internet Commerce Association (ICA), just published a very interesting story on how the trademark clearinghouse (TMCH) program maybe negatively effecting the numbers of new gTLD’s registrations to a factor of 6X.
Its a great read and I think Phil maybe on to something.

The New gTLD .HIV Auction on Sedo May Go Without a Sale - 58 .HIV new gTLD’s are at auction at Sedo.com in a themed auction which ends tomorrow.
I believe all of the domain names are owned by the .HIV registry, however the registries whois does not seem to be working, even resolving for that matter.
As of publication only 4 domain names have bids and none are close to meeting reserve.

.Whoswho a new gTLD went into general availability on March 2nd.
Today on March 4th.
According to ntldstats.com there are a whopping 21 registrations two days into GA, including any domain names registered by trademark holders in the Sunrise period.
A .whoswho domain name registration is priced at $90 at 101domain.com and $99 at encirca.com
The new gTLD is not being carried by any of the top 10 domain name registrars.

Jeffrey Sass Talks Dot Club and a formula of the Dot App Poll - In an article by Laurie Sullivan on Media Post which discussed Google paying $25 million for .app, there was also some commentary from Jeffrey Sass about .club. Sass explained how the pricing works at the wholesale and retail level. He gave a little shout out to Credit.club, the $10.99 hand registration that Bruce Marler was able to jump on. Google Wins The new gTLD .APP For $25 Million - The new gTLD .APP sold for $25 Million to Google today in a ICANN Last Resort Auction which I think is very good news for the new gTLD program in general.
This is the highest price paid in an ICANN Last Resort Auction.
It looks like Google was willing to pay over $30 Million based on the info published by ICANN today
The previously high price paid for a new gTLD in an ICANN Last Resort Auction was $6,760,000 which was paid by Radix for .Tech.
