16,000+ .NYC domains will be expelled subsequent week - Some good .nyc domain names will be released next week. .NYC will release 16,674 previously blocked .NYC domain names on October 8. The domain names were all blocked as name collisions. Not all name collision names will be released, however. Names like Broadway.nyc, Brooklyn.nyc, Bike.nyc and Brewery.nyc are still being held back, presumably as premium domain names or for the city. You can see a list of the names that will become available on Hexonet’s website. Here are some I found interesting: ATMs.nyc Bartender.nyc Bistro.nyc Chow.nyc Democrats.nyc Forecast.nyc GrassRoots.nyc Lobster.nyc Park.nyc Showcase.nyc Showtimes.nyc Smoke.nyc Remember, ... read more ...

Name Collision domain names – is there event for domainers? - The release of blocked second level strings is good for the domain name industry. Is there opportunity for domainers to profit from it? Today, .XYZ will release 18,000 second level domain name options that previously could not be registered. They join hundreds of thousands of other second level domains under new TLDs that have “dropped” in recent weeks, and will do so going forward as well. These domains were blocked because of “name collisions”. Basically, ... read more ...

ICANN posts all name collision reports – solely for 25 new TLDs that don’t qualify - .Web, .blog among those not eligible for APD. ICANN has posted the block lists for all new top level domain names that want to pursue the “alternate path to delegation.” New TLDs can launch faster if they choose this option, which requires them to block certain second level domain name registrations, as least in the beginning. Until now, ICANN had been publishing these lists in small batches, so this development will be welcomed by applicants… Except for some ... read more ...

Typical name collision retard list for Donuts’ TLDs underneath 1,000 names (so far) - Registry won’t have to block many names per TLD, but some of them are good ones. Yesterday ICANN issued the “Alternate Path to Delegation” reports for nine of Donuts’ English language top level domain names. If Donuts chooses to take the alternate path option to speed up delegation of these nine domain names, it will have to initially block anywhere from 194 to 5,184 second level domains. It may be able to unblock many of these after receiving a mitigation ... read more ...

ICANN gives new TLD field a faster trail to market - Top level domain applicants could start registering domains sooner, but there’s a catch. ICANN has changed its plan for mitigating the risk of so-called “name collisions” at the second level of new top level domain names, potentially allowing new top level domain applicants to start selling domains sooner than expected. It’s good news for applicants whose strings fell in the “uncalculated risk” bucket of name collisions. It could also be good news for ... read more ...

Interisle cashes in as new TLD hopefuls compensate for some-more data - New TLD applicants turn to Interisle for more data in effort to avoid more delays. Interisle Consulting Group dropped a bombshell on new top level domain name applicants when it submitted its 197 page report to ICANN about name collisions and new top level domain names. As a result of the report, about 20% of applied-for strings were grouped into an “uncalculated risk” pool, which means that they could face three to six months of delays as ICANN further studies ... read more ...
