Defending Internet Freedom Act of 2014 Introduced To Stop US From Giving Up Control Over ICANN - A Bill was introduced into the House of Representatives, yesterday the Defending Internet Freedom Act of 2014 which would prevent the Obama administration, or that of any future president, from relinquishing the critical functions of the Internet to any other entity without enhanced congressional oversight and until explicit, freedom-protecting requirements are met.

Internet wins as justice denies suit to seize ccTLDs -
Court rules .ir, .sy, .kp and related IDNs cannot be “attached” as compensation.
ICANN and the internet community at large got a victory this week as a U.S. court denied a request (pdf) to seize country code top level domains (ccTLDs) as compensation in a lawsuit.
A number of claimants that had won a judgement against Iran, Syria and North Korea over terrorism charges had demanded control of the country’s ccTLDs (.IR, .SY and .KP plus IDN versions) as payment.

ICANN Pays Over $2 Million Dollars For Its Directors + CEO Fadi Gets Almost $1.4 Million - ICANN published its compensation paid to or on behalf of 23 people who servered on its Board of Directors ending June 30, 2014.
In all 23 people received over $2,000,000 combined in “any payments made by ICANN to Directors (including reimbursements of expenses).”

ICANN: no preference nonetheless on Morocco meeting -
Organization is considering its options due to possible travel restrictions.
ICANN today responded to rumors about postponing next February’s meeting in Morocco by saying it has not yet made a decision. However, it confirmed that it is considering a postponement related to the Ebola outbreak.

ICANN slashes new TLD forecast, though is it enough? -
ICANN is forecasting 15 million new TLD registrations during the current fiscal year.
ICANN has slashed the number of new top level domain name registrations it expects during this fiscal year for budgeting purposes, but is its picture still too rosy?

ICANN Updates Agreement With PowerAuctions for Indirect New gTLD Contention Sets & Pays $120K More - ICANN announced tonight that it was updating its agreement with Power Auctions LLC, the company ICANN contracted with to operate auctions of Last Resort for new gTLD’s that received more than one application and were not able to settle the contention amongst themselves.
ICANN announced today that it has Updated its agreement today with Power Auctions to provide for Indirect Contention Sets for which PowerAuctions will get paid another $120,000

10 contention sets settled at last minute, including three by Amazon.com.
This month’s ICANN auctions of last resort for new to level domain names will settle just three contention sets, down from a schedule of 13 as of last month.
The only three still on the schedule are .spot, .salon and .realty.

Google & Donuts Lose All 3 ICANN New gTLD Auctions: What Did We Learn Today? - ICANN published results of the first three ICANN Last Resort Auctions (there was an auction in June for a IDN String) tonight and we certainly learned a few things.
Many people had the opinion that Google and Amazon would simply outbid all other applicants for all the strings just because they could.
However Google wound up losing all three auctions as did Donuts.
