New gTLD Program Committee Tells ICANN Not To Contract With Apps For Strings With GAC Safeguard Advice - In a resolution tonight, the New gTLD Program Committee (NGPC) told ICANN to “defer moving forward with the contracting process for applicants who have applied for TLD strings listed in the GAC‘s Category 1 Safeguard Advice, pending a dialogue with the GAC”. ICANN explains because it didn’t tell Verisign’s letters - Group it doesn’t usually publish counsel-to-counsel letters. Verisign sent several letters to ICANN earlier this year highlighting concerns about the new registry agreement.
