Demand Media Withdraws 1st New gTLD Application: .Bar -
Demand Media, Inc. (DMD) withdrew its first new gTLD application, .Bar.
The application had a prioritization number of 1,689.
According to the ICANN website, “the Geographic Names Panel determined that the .Bar falls within the criteria for a geographic name contained in the Applicant Guidebook Section 2.2.1.4.”
“The applicant was contacted to provide documentation of support/non-objection per Section 2.2.1.4.3 of the Applicant Guidebook.”
“Bar” is a commune of Montenegro.

New gTLD Program Committee Tells ICANN Not To Contract With Apps For Strings With GAC Safeguard Advice - In a resolution tonight, the New gTLD Program Committee (NGPC) told ICANN to “defer moving forward with the contracting process for applicants who have applied for TLD strings listed in the GAC‘s Category 1 Safeguard Advice, pending a dialogue with the GAC”.
The dialogue with the GAC is according to the resolution to be held at the ICANN Meeting in Durban which is from July 14 – 18th, 2013.

98 New gTLD’s Pass IE: .HBO; .Jaguar; .Yahoo; . Bugatti; .Delta; .Marriott; .Gucci - 98 new gTLD’s passed ICANN initial evaluation (IE) today.
Highlighting this week was Google’s application for .App and the brand applications for .Jaguar; .Yahoo; . Philips; .Delta; .Marriott; .Gucci and .Bugatti.
With today’s action ICANN has now gone through applications with a prioritization number of 1,100.
Out of 1,100 there are still 82 applications that have not passed, failed or sent for extended evaluation.

ICANN Board approves new TLD registry agreement -
Board approves agreement that will govern new top level domain operators.
The New gTLD Program Committee of the ICANN Board of Directors has approved the registry agreement that will be signed by most new TLD operators.
The 93 page agreement governs how top level domain operators must manage their namespaces, fees they’ll pay ICANN, and under what conditions ICANN can terminate the registry relationship.

All four were either brand or closed generic applications.
Dish Network dropped its closed application for the new gTLD .Movie
Dish was to operate .movie “gTLD as a restricted, exclusively-controlled TLD and as such, will not be commercially offered for registration by the general public.”

Top Level Domain Holdings (TLDH) withdrew two applications tonight one for .Review which had a prioritization number of 492 and its application for .Science which had a prioritization number of 924, leaving Famous Four as the sole remaining applicant for each of those extensions.
Famous Four withdrew its 1st new gTLD application for .Fit leaving Top Level Domain Holdings as the sole applicant.

ICANN explains because it didn’t tell Verisign’s letters -
Group it doesn’t usually publish counsel-to-counsel letters.
Verisign sent several letters to ICANN earlier this year highlighting concerns about the new registry agreement. ICANN never posted those letters, and they only came to light when Verisign posted a message in a comment period.

Donuts Loses 2 More Private Auctions As .Red Becomes 1st New gTLD To Be Withdrawn After IE - According to the ICANN website tonight Donuts has withdrawn two more applications as a result of the private auctions held last week
Donuts withdrew both its new gTLD applications for .Red and .Luxury
Donuts application for .Red was filed under Steel Keep, LLC had a prioritization number of 332 and had already passed ICANN Initial Evaluation, meaning that Donuts application for .Red is the first to be withdrawn after passing IE and is eligible for only a 35% refund of its application fee.

Registrar might remove accreditation for unwell to yield send authorisation code -
PacNames didn’t provide AuthInfo code within 5 days, according to breach notice.
ICANN is threatening to cancel accreditation of New Zealand domain name registrar PacNames Ltd for the registrar’s failure to provide a domain transfer out code.
In a breach notice dated June 10 (pdf), ICANN says PacNames has repeatedly failed to provide copies of written communications between the registrar and the registrant of AnimeInfo.net.

Yesterday we reported that Donuts was one of the losing bidders for the new gTLD .Club which was won by .Club Domains, LLC.
The day before we noted that another Donuts Application was withdrawn for .Vote which we figured at the time was the result of a private auction.

113 New gTLD Pass IE: .London; .Windows; .Bloomberg; .Broadway; .Ferrari; .Sony; .Samsung - 113 new gTLD applications passed ICANN Initial Evaluation (IE) today.
The winner of the day might be Uniregistry which had 12 applications pass IE today which had been previously passed over.
Today also saw the most number of previous passed over applications passing IE, by my count 28, thereby making 113 applications passing IE with only 100 new gTLD application being evaluated

.CLUB DOMAINS WINS The New gTLD .CLUB “IN HISTORIC FIRST PRIVATE AUCTION” - .Club Domains, LLC announced today they have won the rights to the new generic top level domain (gTLD) name .CLUB
The .CLUB name was obtained in the first private auction to be completed since ICANN began the new gTLD process.
The other applicants for .Club that participated in the private auction was Donuts and the Merchant Law Group LLP.
This appears to be the second new gTLD private auction that Donuts has lost.
