Domainers We Got A Problem: WAKE UP - I saw a very troubling stat on the blog last night. A post I did a month ago about a joke going around around the Internet about domain names, got 5 times the readership as the post I wrote on Friday about the comment period closing on the URS proposal, which would give trademark holders a fast track to take down any domain that had a trademark and was parked. Comment Period For The Uniform Rapid Suspension (URS) Closes On Monday: - We have talked about it since it came out, and now the time to put your comments on record at ICANN for the proposed Uniform Rapid Suspension (URS). The comment period closes on Monday July 6th. Although the URS on its face only applies to the new gTLD’s, comments made by representatives of ICANN clearly indicate that they will in fact apply to all existing extensions (.com. .net. .org) meaning all the domains you own sooner than later. The ICA “Urges The Commerce Department to Extend and Revise Their Agreement with ICANN” - The Internet Commerce Association (the “ICA) made public tonight the comments it filed with U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) which is considering their agreement with ICANN with expires on September 30, 2009. Appeals Court Reverses & Allows Suit Against Verisign To Go To Trial: This Is A BIG Deal - A lawsuit was filed in 2005 over the no bid, VeriSign contract, with ICANN which gave VeriSign a monopoly to administer the .com and .net registries., by the Coalition for ICANN Transparency (“CFIT”). Today the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit,  reversed the lower court, and allowed the case to proceed against VeriSign, in the case of: CFIT v. VERISIGN, INC. Kentucky Uphold Domain Seizure, Part 2: Our Take: Who is At Risk: What To Do Now - Thursday afternoon Judge Thomas Wingate issued a ruling that he would not dismiss the case brought against domain owners which included seizure of their names. CADNA Serves Up More Ridiculous Figures - The The Coalition Against Domain Name Abuse (CADNA) served up another ridiculous figure to the press today in discussing the new $.20 per domain, non-refundable fee imposed by ICANN to eliminate domain tasting. CADNA in said that ICANN move was only a “partial success” and it “is unlikely that the proposed solution will adequately address domain name tasting”. FireFox 3.0 Released: Is it Bad News for a Domain Industry? - I just downloaded the new verision of FireFox 3.0 web browser which features the new “Awesome Bar” which Mozilla says is a new way of using the address bar on top of the browser to navigate the internet taking into account your bookmarks and viewing history.  Mozilla says that the “Awesome Bar” basically turns the address bar into a search engine. “No longer do you have to know the domain of the page you’re looking for the AwesomeBar will match what you’re typing (even multiple words) ... read more ...

Lauderdale are in the top five markets in the US in foreclosure rates, number of unsold homes relative to population, prices have declined 25% or more in the past year and have recently been predicted to decline another 20%-25% this year. Our ICA Match Program Ends as “the many successful fundraising bid ever for ICA” - Last Friday after finding that only 10K in contribution were received by the ICA in the month since the Snow Bill was introduced, we challenged the domain industry to step up to the plate and join the ICA. We put our money where our mouth is and offered to match up to 10K in new member contributions. ICA Membership List is Posted: Are we on a list? - Last week a number of readers commented on this blog wanting to know who were members of the ICA and their level of membership. Electronic Frontier Foundation Comes out Against Snowe Bill - The Electronic Frontier Foundation, a non-profit orgainization which according to it’s site, defends the internet from laws that would harm “free speech, privacy, innovation, and consumer rights”.
