GigaOm did a very lengthy piece earlier today on Go Daddy and on the maturation process the company has embarked upon to become more of a technology company. Blake Irving certainly has shaken things up with a lot of the focus being on small business.

GoDaddy has already posted one of its two Super Bowl commercials for Sunday’s game. It hasn’t posted its second yet, but it has revealed some of the subject matter.

Confirmed: There Will Not Be A .Co/Godaddy Super Bowl Commercial This Year - Godaddy.com released one its commercials that it will be airing during the Super Bowl today.
I confirmed with Godaddy that there will not be a .Co domain name registry co-branded commercial running on this year’s Super Bowl.
The .Co registry ran co-branded ads with Godaddy for the past three Super Bowls.
My favorite of the bunch, actually my favorite television commercial of all time for domain names, was last years Godaddy/.Co commercial entitled Your Big Idea .Co.

GoDaddy has published one of its Super Bowl Commercials that will air during the big game February 2.
As promised, it’s a distinct departure from previous years in which the company featured scantily clad women. This time it is scantily clad men, although Danica Patrick still plays a role.

Go Daddy CEO calls stream domain space soiled and not descriptive -
Blake Irving CEO of Go Daddy sat down at the Consumer Electronics Show and gave a talk about the changes taking place in the domain space.
Irving calls the current space polluted and talks about the new names being descriptive. He talks about pizza, doctor, dentist and then says LA, of course LA has been available and is a cctld. This inclusion is why some think that the repurposed country codes may get an extra boost as people just include them when talking about the new gtlds.

Go Daddy Fires Back during AMPAS - Two weeks ago Mike covered the news that The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences which hands out the Oscars had filed another lawsuit against Godaddy under the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (“ACPA”). The Hollywood Reporter is out with a story now where Go Daddy claims that the Academy gets special treatment from the judge hearing the case. Afternic/Godaddy Sells $1.1 Million In Domain Names - Afternic/Godaddy released its sales report right before the New Years Break for the the week of 12/23/13 – 12/29/13.
Sales totaled $1,120,500
All sales were lead by Folia.com
Looks like one New York based Real Estate Investment Trust picked up a pair of domains for $8,300 each; NewYorkREIT.com and NYREIT.com

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted a sixth patent to GoDaddy related to a way to position domain names in response to a user’s domain search.

Top reported sale was Uber.org for $36,000.
GoDaddy Auctions tallied 38,841 domain name sales in December, according to preliminary numbers in the company’s Domain Market Report.
The top reportable sale was Uber.org for $36,000. Although the whois record does not yet reflect the buyer, a likely buyer is taxi/black car service Uber.

Uber.org Leads The Go Daddy Auctions Domain Report for Dec 2013 - Go Daddy finished the year selling 38,841 domains vs 39,715 in November.
Uber.org was the top sale for the month at $36,000. The domain registered in 2001 looks to have been sold by the Canadian powerhouse Original.com. The whois shows Go Daddy and the name still points to an Internet Traffic parked page.

New gTLD Price Wars As United Domains Undercuts Godaddy - United Domains sent out an email making customers aware that they were now taking binding pre-orders on some new gTLD domain names.
Interestedly Go Daddy which built its business being the low cost provider on .com, looks like it may be taking a different path with the new gtlds as there prices are higher on a majority of the extension both are taking pre-orders on.

Total domain sales for the week summed to $1,838,001.
All sales were led by Humble.com which sold for $50,0000
Orderme.com at $20K was pretty cheap.
iFollow.com at $9,700 is interesting.
I have no idea who would buy or why Godaddy.com or Afternic would sell GoogleCreate.com at all, but it sold for $2,300.
Google does not seem to be the buyer.
