Seriously: anything.domains will be up for grabs.
The Early Access Program phase for Donuts’ top level domain .domains starts on March 5. A week later, on March 12, .domains domains will be available at standard pricing of around $30-$40.
I’m curious what types of domains will be registered in this namespace. I’m sure some registrars will participate.

I only went 0-for-17 induction new domain names -
Between name collisions, registry reserved domains, and premium pricing, the best new TLD opportunities are difficult to find.
I think there are some opportunities for domainers to make money with new top level domain names, but they are limited.
My thinking is that some domain names that can be obtained for under $100 with low renewal fees can be sold within 1-5 years for low $1,000s to the right buyer. It’s very risky, and with typical sell through rates I’ll ... read more ...

4 some-more Donuts domain names entered GA yesterday. Here are a numbers. -
Donuts’ domain names continue to spill onto the domain name market.
Yesterday four new Donuts domain names came off of “Early Access Pricing” and became available for standard registration prices.
.Tips
I could tell this one was getting traction because Network Solutions was promoting it much like it did .guru. It’s a fairly solid generic.
Pricing is in Donuts’ lowest pricing tier, so .tips domains will typically run you about $20-$25. NameCheap, which ... read more ...

.Green and .Wedding row sets staid in multi-million dollar auctions -
Two three-applicant contention sets are resolved.
The .green and .wedding new top level domain name contention sets have been resolved in private auctions.
It’s unclear which company won the .green auction as applications have not yet been withdrawn. However, Top Level Domain Holdings (Minds + Machines) announced today it was on the losing end of that auction.
It used the proceeds from losing .green to spend millions on .wedding. After accounting for the proceeds ... read more ...

GoDaddy auction information yield early denote of new TLD direct and values -
Auction data show competition for new TLD registrations and shed light on strategic considerations for ordering domains.
What are domains registered under new top level domain names worth, and what is the demand for them?
We already know how many domains are being registered. .Guru has close to 30,000 registrations and .photography has topped 10,000. Most others are in the 1,000-5,000 range.
But digging deeper into the pre-registration process provides another interesting ... read more ...

Rightside Registry offers the possess Domain Protected Marks List -
Service for blocking trademark domain names is very similar to Donuts’.
Rightside Registry announced its own version of the Domain Protected Marks List (DPML) service last week.
With the service, trademark owners can block their marks from being registered as a second level domain name in any of the top level domain names Rightside runs.
If the name and the concept sound very familiar to Donuts’ DPML, that’s because Rightside Registry also runs the backend technical ... read more ...

.Guru tops 10,000 domain name registrations and Donuts now has around 25,000 registered second level domain names.

On the first day of general availability, the .guru namespace grew to over 12,000 domain names, based on zone files published this evening.
At over 10,000 strings second level domains, they pretty much cover the spectrum. And yes, some trademarks were registered by people other than ... read more ...

Donuts’ subsequent 7 sunrises: usually 2 tip 100 domain names -
Based on zone files, only two of Donuts’ second batch of TLDs to go through sunrise topped 100 registrations.
Last week I wrote about Donuts’ first seven sunrises, each of which typically resulted in about 100-200 registrations.
The next batch of seven domain names has concluded sunrise, and the numbers are markedly lower: only two reached 100 domain names, according to the latest zone files.
Now, as with last time, there are a lot of caveats with this data, and ... read more ...

Digging in on Donuts’ Sunrise: Amazon tops a list, gaming, and tip registrars -
Here’s a look at the top registrants and registrars, plus details on possible gaming and EAP day one registrations.
Last night I published initial data about Donuts’ sunrise period on its first seven domain names. This was based on names in the zone files that were published last night.
As I mentioned in my previous post, the number of names in the zone file should be considered the lower bound of names that were actually registered in sunrise. I’ve already ... read more ...

The numbers are in! Donuts sunrises typically get 100+ domains, though they also got gamed -
Most of Donuts domain names received at least 100 sunrise registrations, and some of them are of questionable merit.
Donuts has just published its zone files for the seven domain names that recently exited sunrise. Most of the domains have at least 100 domains in their zone files, but there’s also some curious activity: it appears Donuts got gamed by some of its fellow applicants.
First, some caveats. The zone files, dated 1-31, are post sunrise and include a lot ... read more ...

Daniel Schindler of Donuts Says gTLDs Better Than .Com But .Com Values Will Go Up -
In a blog post appearing in iparkavenue.com, Daniel Schindler of Donuts is quoted as saying gTLDs Better Than .Com.
You might expect that from a co-founder of a company which applied for 3x more new gTLD’s than any company on earth, however in all fairness Dan’s comment that a new gTLD is better than a .com seems to be limited to end users looking for available domain names:
Here are the most interest parts of the story:
“First, he is firmly convinced that the new gTLDs are better than the ... read more ...

TKO: There will be no .sports tip turn domain in a initial round -
Objection panel rules that the the sport community would face material detriment for a .sports domain name.
Well, at least this decision is consistent. Except it isn’t.

This was a case of bad luck-of-the-draw: it got the same panelist on this case, Jonathan Taylor, as it did for .sport.

Donuts Comments On ICANN Last Resort Auction Rules - Donuts filed a comment with ICANN over the ICANN Last Resort Auction Rules which were up for public comment.
Unlike Google which thinks the one year period in which is would take ICANN to hold all Last Resort Auctions is too slow, and Unregistry which think the period is too quick, Donuts thinks the timing is just about right although wants applicants who agree to have a second extension period of 3 months to resolve contention privately.

A lot of new top level domain name applicants and objectors have filed reconsideration requests with ICANN after landing on the losing side of objections.
I stopped writing about these filings after the first few. They’re so plentiful as to no longer constitute “news.” Also, ICANN is rejecting all of the requests, so it seems like a futile practice.

This association competence be peaceful to compensate $12,500 for a new second turn domain name -
Who would pay over ten grand for a new second level domain name?
A lot of people were in shock last week when GoDaddy unveiled its pricing for Donuts’ Early Access Program registrations.
The Early Access Program (EAP) is Donuts’ version of the traditional landrush period. Instead of accepting applications and auctioning the domain names off the the highest bidder, EAP is sort of like a Dutch auction. The EAP goes on for five days, and the price to register a domain ... read more ...

Two members of an objection panel come up with their own rules for whether a top level domain name is acceptable.
An International Chamber of Commerce panel has killed the .hospital top level domain name by siding with the Independent Objector in a Limited Public Interest Objection against Donuts.
I believe the panel wrote its own rules and came to its decision improperly. It went rogue.
And to back me up, I have a concise and clearly written dissent (pdf) by one ... read more ...

GoDaddy issues its pricing for jumping the line for Donuts’ domain names.
Last month I wrote about how Donuts was eschewing a traditional “landrush” period for its domain names in favor of a so-called “Early Access Program”.
