Nominet Haults Plan For .Uk Domain Names, For Now - According to a post on its blog, Nominet.org.uk, is stopping with its plan to sell the shorter, “direct.uk, domain names for now.
Nominet says there will be studying the issue over the coming months.
The plan which would have allowed Nominet the company that runs the .UK ccTLD to start selling domains ending in just .UK rather than the current .co.Uk came under attack by domain holders and others in the domain space.

Microsoft Releases ccTLD Registry Security Assessment Service To Find & Fix Security Vulnerabilities - Microsoft released the Microsoft Country-Code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) Registry Security Assessment Service at the RSA Conference today in San Francisco:
The new service was designed to help ccTLD registry operators find and fix security vulnerabilities before they are exploited.

US Government Opens Comment Period On .US ccTLD: Contract Expires On 8/31 - The United States Department of Commerce’s (Department) National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) which administers the contract for the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the United States, “.US” (usTLD) has opened up the comment period on the contract to run the .US extension.
The current contract expires on August 31, 2013.
Neustar, Inc (NSR) operates the .US extension under the current contract.

Domainindex.com Downgrades .Co.uk From AA To B: Introduction of .uk TLD “Would Massively Destroy a Value of Existing .co.uk Domains - Domainindex.com, downgraded its rating for .co.uk from AA to B.
The step has been taken after the release on October 1, 2012 of a three-month consultation by Nominet, the not-for-profit manager of the .uk infrastructure, into a scheme that would introduce .uk as a top-level domain (TLD).

The Government of Gabon Says No To Kim Dotcom’s Me.ga Plan - A few days ago Kim Dotcom announced his plan for a new version of his Megaupload site which would use the domain name Me.ga.
.Ga is the country code or ccTLD for the country of Gabon.
Last night the government of Gabon said it would suspend the internet domain Kim Dotcomhe had planned used for the service.

Directi has just announced that it will be launching the ccTLD .pw – “the Professional Web, as a generic and open TLD, during ICANN’s Toronto summit”.

.Eu Domain Names Pass 3.6 Million Registrations & Has An 85% Renewal Rate - .Eu’s domain name registrations grew 7.6% in the 2nd Quarter of of 2012 compared with one year ago, according to the latest progress report from the .eu top-level domain registry, EURid

AFNIC Awarded New Contract To Run .FR Registry But Only After Open Bidding Results In Reduced Prices - I know that a lot of American’s complain about the French, but in this case they got it right and we got it wrong.
Like Verisign which operates the .com/.net registry under contract, AFNIC is the company that run’s the .FR registry for France under contract from the government and has done so since 1998.
Due to complaints, France opened up bidding for the contract to run the registry.

.ie Registrations Grew In 2011 By 13% To 173,145 Domain Names - The IE Domain Registry (IEDR), the not-for-profit public organization that manages Ireland’s top level Internet domain, .ie, issued its annual reported for 2011 on the .ie ccTLD.
Among the financial and operational highlights for 2011 were:

One Surprising Finding From A Trip To The UK: A Lot of People Are Using .Com Too - I had never been to the United Kingdom until I had a chance to visit it for the Dot-Nxt conference which was then postponed until August.
