Remember Congo? It rebranded as LawBooth.com - Company finds a good .com for under $3,000.
Congo changed its brand to Lawbooth.
Remember Congo? The company that started its lawyer-match service at Congo.io, and then balked at the “egregiously overinflated” asking price of $750,000 for Congo.com?
Although I disagree about its characterization of the Congo.com asking price, I like the contest it proposed: find us a .com domain name we can buy for less than $3,000 to make our new brand.
When people say “all the good .com domains are taken,” ... read more ...

BuyDomains and a economics of vast domain portfolios -
Should very large domain name portfolios be valued per domain or on sales and profitability metrics?
The sale of BuyDomains.com this week, including a portfolio of close to a million domains for something less than $80 per domain, has raised eyebrows.
On Tuesday, I wrote a bit about the BuyDomains’ business and how the valuation might make sense when viewed from a different perspective.
This post will go into a bit more depth, and compare BuyDomains to other domain ... read more ...

Why Endurance bought BuyDomains, and because a cost competence make sense -
BuyDomains is a natural fit for Endurance, and you need to look at more than price-per-domain to understand its value.
Endurance International, a $2.1 billion (market cap) rollup of hosting and domain name companies, announced this morning that it acquired BuyDomains from NameMedia.
The tie-up makes sense for Endurance, which is generally considered the #2 domain name registrar in terms of domains under management. It will now be able to sell its massive customer ... read more ...

BuyDomains said it registered AcademyOnline.net as a generic domain name, not because of the sports retailer.
BuyDomains, part of NameMedia, has successfully defended a UDRP brought by Academy Sports + Outdoors against the domain name AcademyOnline.net.

If a lead comes by a broker, we should compensate a broker -
Give credit where credit is due.
Yesterday I got an email from someone interested in one of my domains.
“I found your domain on BuyDomains,” he stated.
But he thought the price I listed on BuyDomains (via Afternic) was too high and wanted to negotiate. Rather than call BuyDomains to negotiate he emailed me directly.
We worked out a price, and then I changed the price at BuyDomains to what we negotiated and told him to buy it through them.
It could be tempting ... read more ...

Why BuyDomains’ lawsuit over FACI.com creates sense -
Lawsuit over FACI.com is about more than just a single domain name.
In April I wrote about how a WIPO panel “stole” FACI.com from BuyDomains (NameMedia) in a faulty UDRP decision. I also mentioned that I hoped BuyDomains would turn to the courts to over the issue.
On Friday George Kirikos noticed that the company did indeed turn to the courts, filing a lawsuit in Massachusetts. The suit is fairly bread-and-butter for declaratory and injunctive relief.

The Truth About NameMedia, Afternic, and BuyDomains -
Here’s why NameMedia sells more of its own domains than clients’ domains.
Every once in a while I feel like going on a rant. So here goes.
There’s been a lot of talk on both my blog and others about NameMedia, which operates BuyDomains and AfternicDLS.
NameMedia owns its own portfolio of domains which it sells through its platform. It also allows other domain owners (i.e., you) to sell domains via its AfternicDLS system, which then syndicates through its ... read more ...

If you’ve shopped for a certificate of deposit rate recently, you were probably disappointed by the results. Bankrate reports the typical 6-month CD is returning just 0.85%. Afternic Offers Free Membership in April -
Company offers free membership through the end of April.
AfternicDLS is offering free sellers memberships — but the offer ends April 30.
Afternic usually charges $19.95 to become a seller on its platform, and $1.00 for a buyer-only membership. Its chief competitor Sedo doesn’t charge for accounts.
However, given Afternic’s historic focus on sales instead of domain parking, the fee makes sense. The seller fee limits the amount of users who merely flood the ... read more ...
