For GeoDomain Expo, The Sponsors Tell a Story -
GeoDomain Expo attracts a different type of crowd.
For the past few years I’ve enjoyed my trip to GeoDomain Expo, an annual gathering of owners of city.com and similar geographic domain names. It’s a different sort of conference that attracts a different crowd than most domain conferences I attend.
You can tell that by looking at the sponsor list. Few of the companies are directly involved in the domain business. From Local.com to ARES to Booking.com, the show ... read more ...

San Diego Weather Cools Down for GeoDomain Expo -
High temperature to be in the 60s during conference.
The good folks at Associated Cities must have called in a favor for this week’s GeoDomain Expo in San Diego. After a sweltering high of 98 °F yesterday, the high temperature will cool to the 60s for the duration of the conference that kicks off Thursday night.
Thank goodness. I leave Texas to visit a cool place, not another hot one.
But the auction at the event is showing no signs of cooling off. 14 domains ... read more ...

Overheard during GeoDomain Expo: TrafficZ, Moniker Auction -
A summary of news coming out of the GeoDomain Expo in Chicago so far.
I’ve been at the GeoDomain Expo in Chicago for about 24 hours now and it’s been a fast-paced event. Here’s a summary of what’s been going on:
There are about 200 people at the conference, far surpassing previous GeoDomain Expos. As one person commented to me on the trolley ride to the TrafficZ party last night, “The mood here is far more upbeat than at regular domain conferences.” ... read more ...

YouTube Goes Geo -
YouTube adds local search functions.
Video site YouTube is releasing a new feature to let people find videos tagged with a particular geographic location. Why is this relevant to domainers? Well, I’m sitting here in the Admirals Club in Austin getting ready to board my flight to the Associated Cities GeoDomain Expo in Chicago. At the conference I’ll see a hundred people who are big believers in “local search” and are betting big on the future of local search.

2008 GeoDomain Expo Preview with Patrick Carleton -
QA with Patrick Carleton, Executive Director of Associated Cities.
The 2008 GeoDomain Expo hits Chicago July 10-12. Advanced ticket sales are hot, and Associated Cities’ Patrick Carleton expects attendance to be double last year. I recently caught up with Carleton to get a preview of this year’s conference. Afterward, Carleton did a lengthy interview that was published on the Associated Cities’ web site. You can read it here.

2008 GeoDomain Expo Coming to Chicago -
Conference for “hot” sector of domain names returns in July.
It seems like everywhere you look, domainers are talking about “Geo” domains. Those in the geo space will tell you it’s been hot since the beginning, but they probably enjoy finally getting the respect they deserve. And that will be on display at this year’s GeoDomain Expo in Chicago July 11-12 at W Chicago – City Center. (There is a cocktail party the evening of July 10.)
I’ve decided ... read more ...

Survey Focus: Which Major Domain Conference is Best? -
Survey asks domainers to pick the best domain conference.
TRAFFIC, Domain Roundtable, DomainFEST, GeoDomain…which is best? That’s just one of the new questions on this year’s Domain Name Wire survey. (If you haven’t participated yet, click here.)
Here’s a quick run down of the various domain conferences:
TRAFFIC – It’s actually spelled T.R.A.F.F.I.C., but that’s one pain to type out. Seriously though, TRAFFIC can be credited with kicking off a wave ... read more ...
