Unless you want to lose search traffic, you need to make your site mobile friendly before April 21.
Google announced today that it will place more weight on how mobile-friendly a website is when users search from a mobile device starting April 21. The company says this will affect mobile searches in all countries, and will have a “significant impact” on search results.

Google Wins The new gTLD .APP For $25 Million - The new gTLD .APP sold for $25 Million to Google today in a ICANN Last Resort Auction which I think is very good news for the new gTLD program in general.
This is the highest price paid in an ICANN Last Resort Auction.
It looks like Google was willing to pay over $30 Million based on the info published by ICANN today
The previously high price paid for a new gTLD in an ICANN Last Resort Auction was $6,760,000 which was paid by Radix for .Tech.
Radix was also a bidder for .APP

Google has won the rights to operate the .App top level domain name after paying what may be a record-breaking price for a top level domain name.
13 companies applied to run the .app domain name, and 12 of them were still in the running when the ICANN auction started yesterday. The auction was so heated that it continued today, with the final price ending at $25,001,000.

So far, we’ve seen some innovation in how new top level domain names are distributed and sold, but not much innovation in how they’re actually used.

Melbourne IT Acquires Uber Global For Over $12 Million: Australian Cloud Services Co & Domain Registrar - Melbourne IT agreed to acquire the third largest Australian based cloud services provider Uber Global for $15.5 million AU (approximately $12.2 million USD) which also owns a ICANN Accredited domain name registrar.
The deal, is expected to be complete by April 30, 2015

Marchex CEO stairs down - A new boss at Marchex and Q4 earnings released.
Marchex reported earnings today, and also announced that long time CEO Russell Horowitz has stepped down. Company co-founder Pete Christothoulou has taken over the top post.
The company, which derives the bulk of its revenue from performance advertising in which customers pay for phone calls, had a rocky 2014 after losing the bulk of its business from its biggest client. The stock trades for about $4.00 now, well below its 52-week high of $12.84.

Marchex's Archeo Revenue $14.5M In 2014; Horowitz Steps Down As CEO; Pete Christothoulou Takes Over - Marchex (MCHX) reported its earnings for the 4th Quarter and the full year of 2014, after the market closed today and also announced that Russell Horowitz who has been the CEO of the company for the last 12 years is stepping down as CEO but will remain on the board.
Marchex co-founder Pete Christothoulou was named CEO.
The company also announced that former Market Leader CEO Ian Morris has joined the board.

.co.com announced today that it has hit its one year anniversary since launching and has registered over 10,000 domain names.

The company wrote in part that its 10,000 registrations are “more than most ICANN new gTLDs – and demand is accelerating”

.Science Gets Almost 14,000 (Mostly Free) Registrations - Yesterday we told you that .Science could be registered for free on AlpNames.com, wound up its first day of general availability with almost 14,000 registrations.
.Science only had 13 domain names registered in Sunrise by trademark holders and wound up their first day with 13,397.

UPDATE – Minds + Machines revenues surge as new domains come online - Minds + Machines (LON:MMX), the top-level domains owner and operator, saw revenue surge from September when ten of its newly acquired Internet names became generally available.
Sales totalled £2.9mln in the six months to December, with £2.2mln generated in the last four months.
In that time, 107,000 domain names were registered for Minds + Machines' portfolio, of which 10% were sold through its own registrar businesses.

GoDaddy releases earnings, picks GDDY ticker - Domain name registrar gets one step closer to IPO.
GoDaddy filed an amended S-1 statement with the SEC today that revealed fourth quarter and full year 2014 financials, as well as the company’s planned NYSE stock ticker GDDY.
Fourth quarter revenue at the company grew to $371.7 million, up from $356.9 million in the third quarter and $305.9 million in the same quarter of 2013. The company reported a net loss of ($26.8) million for the quarter, about in line with the third quarter.
