Efforts to heighten public awareness of gTLDs gear up - This week sees the launch of a month-long education campaign about new generic top-level domains (gTLDs). While WTR has reported extensively on ICANN’s new gTLDs expansion, with the trademark community an active voice in the programme’s development, general awareness of new gTLDs remains relatively low. However, according to a public opinion ... read more ...

We found that there is a huge discrepancy in what has been expected in the ICANN community and what the "Experts" have be decided. You Just Signed a Registry Contract With ICANN. What Are Your Plans? - Back on February 4, 2013, I wrote a CircleID post entitled, 'How the registrar Cash Flow Model Could Collapse with New ICANN gTLDs.' My key point back then was this: new gTLD applicants need to be mindful of how the cash flow policies of their registry (and of their back-end service provider) could impact whether their TLD is actively promoted by ICANN registrars. When ICANN registrars were first established, all of the business risk of domain name registrations was placed on Registrars. ... read more ...

The program allows parties, through ICANN’s application process, to redefine endings for internet domain names beyond the core generic endings such as ‘.com’, ‘.net’ and ‘.org’. Reflections on EUI’s New Community Priority Evaluation Guidelines for New … - The new Community Priority Evaluation (CPE) guidelines prepared by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), and published by ICANN are now past their feedback period. We, at Radix, believe that ICANN has received feedback from approximately 10 stakeholders, and I for one, am looking forward to those being published. Impact of new gTLD launch expands to U.S. Patent & Trademark Office - With the impending launch of up to 1,400 new generic top level domains (gTLDs) in the coming months, trademark owners are scrambling to decide how to protect their brands from online infringement, and, on the other hand, how to leverage their intellectual property assets in this new online space.
