It’s a big day in the world of domaining. ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) just took the next step in changing the way we navigate around the world wide web when they signed the first four registry agreements on new top level domains.
Top level domains are those words we type after the “dot” – com, net, edu, org. But now that the internet is getting crowded, ICANN decided it was time to create new living quarters to house everyone so they created 2,000 new ... read more ...

Over 40 years ago, a handful of academics began investigating the concept of getting computers to “talk” to each other. From the early days proving the initial concept of ‘inter-networking’ four basic computers to today’s global information infrastructure, the Internet has always fundamentally relied on a system of naming and identifying the individual computers. In order to communicate with another computer ... read more ...
Amazon Beats Pinterest In Fight Over .Pin Domain -
Amazon has beaten Pinterest in a battle over .pin, one of the many new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) that are in the process of joining existing domains like .com, .net and .org.
In a decision issued this week, a World Intellectual Property Organization mediator rejected Pinterest’s objection to Amazon’s application to own .pin.
Pinterest filed its objection in March, and based its argument on the fact that it’s applying for a trademark on the word “pin” in the U.S. and more than ... read more ...
What’s In A Name? ICANN Rejects Amazon’s Request For Top-Level Domain … - As the Internet evolves, so too has the domain name. For years, everything was a .com, .net, .org, .edu, and so on, but now the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has enabled a greater variety of top-level domains (TLDs).
Amazon, which has been accused of hoarding the new TLDs, was obviously hoping to snag .amazon, but it won’t be so; according to the New York Times, a group of Latin American countries including Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay has succeeded ... read more ...

After Losing UDRP For WIIU.com, Nintendo Allows Domain Like Wiisport.com GamesforWii.com To Drop - After losing a well publicized UDRP decision on WiiU.com, Nintendo allowed other bang on Wii domain names to drop this week only to sit by and watch them be re-registered by companies other than Nintendo.
We have pointed this corporate mentality many times before, one in which company’s are willing to spend thousands of dollars in costs and fees to file UDRP’s to attempt to gain control of domains while sitting back watching equally as good or better trademark infringing domains to simply drop.
