Mike Mann Sells UpperPeninsula.com For $55,000 Purchased For $2,500 - Mike Mann announced on his Facebook Page a short time ago that he has sold the domain name UpperPeninsula.com For a whooping $55,000, a domain he bought back in 2007 for just $2,500
This isn’t the only sale Mike has announced in the last couple of day.
Today alone Mike says he sold 14 domain names for a total of over $70K, including UpperPeninsula.com.

Eli Lilley Pulls New gTLD App For .CIALIS & Rogers Communications Pulls App For .CHATR - Two more new gTLD applications have been withdrawn by the applicants, bring the total number of withdrawn new gTLD applications to 6.
Eli Lilley has withdrawn its application for .Cialis., apparently it didn’t have the staying power you would have thought it would.
The application was submitted on Behalf of Eli Lilley by Fairwind Partners.
The second application now showing as being withdrawn as of today, is for the new gTLD .CHATR which was filed by Rogers Communications Partnership.

Godaddy.com Kills Its Cloud Business As A Stand Alone Product - According to gigaom.com, Godaddy.com “has decided to close its Cloud Servers cloud computing product, according to an internal email shared with Gigaom.com by an anonymous ex-employee.”
“After reviewing all of our hosting products, we decided to double-down on our shared hosting and site builder products and invest to win in these spaces,” it reads. “As part of this focus, we will discontinue Cloud Servers as a stand-alone product.”

Kozmo.com may be defunct but it’s domain registration lives on.
In July I wrote about how Los Angeles company Yummy Foods, LLC wanted to relaunch the Kozmo.com delivery brand.
Kozmo.com was one of the biggest dot.com busts. It raised around $250 million in order to deliver a pack of gum to your house with no delivery fee.

Yesterday Gift Card Lab announced that it had acquired GiftCard.com for over $4 million in cash and equity.
The purchase was not just a domain name; it came with a long running business that also included the 1-800-gift-card vanity number.

Verisign wants obvious on “non-existent domain” research tools -
Company files patent application related to NXD data analysis.
Verisign has made great strides in opening up its treasure trove of data related to traffic to non-existent domain names (NXD).
Now it wants to patent some of its methods.
The company filed a patent application (pdf) for “Traffic Like NXDomains” in March last year. The application was just published today.

Company sues to get Reinvention.com domain name -
Marketing company claims domain infringes its re:invention mark.
An Illinois marketing company called Reinvention, Inc. has sued data sampling company Reinvention, LLC, which owns the Reinvention.com domain name.
The brief, five page complaint (pdf) claims that Reinvention, LLC is infringing on Reinvention, Inc’s trademark for “re:invention”.

UPDATE: GiftCard.com Purchased For $4 Million Dollars Cash Plus Stock - We wrote earlier today about GiftCard.com selling according to a press release for $4 million dollars.
The PR chatted about stock plus cash but the buyer of the domain has confirmed that $4 Million in cash was paid for the domain, with the stock being a kicker (extra) compensation.
This therefore becomes the highest domain sale of 2012.

Big names buy domain names this week.
All I can say is “wow!”. This was a huge week for end user domain name purchases. I honestly don’t recall a week with this many big names on the list.

Domain registrations grow 12% to 240 million -
Base of registered domains continues to grow.
The total base of registered domain names increased nearly 12% year over year to 240 million at the end of June, VeriSign announced its its quarterly domain industry brief today.
Country code domain name registrations continue to lead the way. There are now over 100 million registered country code domain names, an 18.5% increase over a year.

Another month of over 30,000 domain name sales in Go Daddy’s aftermarket.
Go Daddy Auctions is reporting over 30,000 domains sold last month.
The ticker shows 30,839; the number is typically adjusted upward as final tallies come in.
The top reported sale for last month is CashLady.com at $36,000. The domain name was purchased by PDB UK, a payday loans broker in the United Kingdom.

ICM Registry files counterclaims against online adult entertainment giant.

That’s part of the argument in a legal fight between porn giant Manwin and .xxx registry ICM registry.

ICM Operator of .XXX Counter Sues Manwin & Digital Playground For $120 Million - ICM the operator of the .XXX Top Level Domain (TLD) just filed a counterclaim again Manwin Licensing International, the company that owns YouPorn.com and Digital Playground, Inc, both of which filed suit against ICM and ICANN over the .XXX extension.
ICM is asking the court to award it $120 Million dollars (treble damages), punitive damages, attorney fees and for injunctive relief.

After Raising Over $4.5 Million Selling 1 & 2 Letter .Co.Uk Domains, Nominet Proposes .UK Domains - Nominet, the non-profit company that runs the Internet domain system for the United Kindgom ccTLD .Uk said today that they are looking at issuing second level .Uk domains names one’s that do not require the use of the .co first.
The proposal is now open for comments until January 7, 2013.
