ICANN Extends Comment Period For New gTLD’s 45 Days Until Sep 26th - After requests of many groups, ICANN has officially extended the comment period on the new gTLD’s for an additional 45 days.
The new end date is now 26 September 2012.
Its a good move by ICANN, which by eliminating digital archery and going with a one batch application processing system, is basically out to at least June before much else happens.

With Just Under Two Weeks To Go, Over Half of a Domains In a SnapNames/Dotster Auction Have Bids - We have all seen showcase auctions where there were just a handful of domains that wound up with bids, but it looks like SnapNames.com is on to something with their Dotster Showcase Auction.
The auction which doesn’t end until Thursday August 23rd at 3:15pm EST already has more than half the domain names with a bid.
While there are no big numbers yet, its a welcome sight to see an auction with bidders.

The complainant is Original Buff, S.A. which owns a Trademark on the term Buff in many countries but seems like the main one is spain.
In the US it looks like the trademark was just filed in 2011.
It looks like Buff’s offical site is at buff.eu
Looks like Buff makes scarves and buffs like you see on Survivor.
The domain is owned by Buff Blog with a current creation date of 1997.
The domain is not active and goes to a 404 page.

UDRP panel doesn’t understand that page is just an automated parked page.
Online classifieds site Craigslist has lost a case against one Craig Solomon for the domain name CraigsLists.com (note the extra ‘s’ at the end).
The National Arbitration Forum panel relied heavily on laches — Craigslist’s delay in filing the dispute — in coming to its determination. Although that’s great news for domain investors, at the end of the day I think the panel was duped.

Whitserv says it’s entrance after domain registrars for promulgation renovation notices -
Company claims it has patents related to sending renewal notices.
Whitserv, a company suing Go Daddy for alleged patent infringement related to sending renewal reminder notices, says it has put other domain registrars “on notice” as well.
Last year Whitserv filed suit against Go Daddy for how it sends reminder notices to renew domain names.
The company apparently got a victory related to the same patents against another company, so it just sent out a press release:

Seminole Tribe of Florida Loses UDRP On SeminoleCasino.com & SeminoleGaming.com - The Seminole Tribe of Florida which operates in conjunction with Hard Rock, the Hard Rock Seminole Casino’s in Hollywood Florida and in Tampa, Florida just lost a UDRP on three domain names, seminolecasino.com, seminolegaming.com and casinoseminole.com.
The domain holder is M.M.Commerce of Florida which seems to be the original registrants of the domain going back to 2004.

April’s ICANN Registry Reports Are Out & .XXX Adds 30,000 Registrations Since December - The Registry reports are out for April 2012, and it looks like ICM registry the owner of .XXX extension is up to 134,884 registrations.
As of December 2011, the month .XXX launched, they reported 106K registrations, so they have added almost 30K domain registrations in 4 months.
(Even though we are in August we are talking about the most recent Registry reports which are for April)

Demand Reports: Revenue Up 17%; Registrar Revenue Up 13% & Swings to A Profit - After the market closed today Demand Media, Inc, (NYSE: DMD) reported earnings for the quarter ending June 30, 2012.
Revenues were up and the company swung to a profit.
Shares after hours are trading at $12 a share up around 3%.
More importantly they up their guidance for the third quarter and 2012 in general.
For the quarter ending June 30th, Revenue Grew 17% and Revenue ex-TAC (Traffic Acquisition Cost) was Up 16% Year-over-Year
