Interview: Kieren McCarthy on .Nxt conference - Kieren McCarthy discusses the upcoming .Nxt conference. The .Nxt conference on new top level domain names is August 29-31 in London. I reached out to show organizer Kieren McCarthy for details. 1. You postponed the London conference to August. Why? Quite simply, the ICANN TAS software “glitch”. The conference was planned with a seven-week lead time between the applicant information being published and opening the doors. We figured that would give everyone enough ... read more ...

.Nxt discussion rescheduled for August - London top level domain conference moved due to program delays. Kieren McCarthy’s .Nxt conference about new top level domain names has been rescheduled for August 29-31. The event was originally scheduled for last week, but became of a victim of ICANN’s delayed announcement of new top level domain applicants. Canceling or moving the dates of a conference can be a death knell, but given the circumstances this was probably a smart move by McCarthy. Now that the ... read more ...

.nxt – Like an ICANN Meeting With a Pulse - by Kevin Murphy The inaugural .nxt conference on new top-level domains wound up in San Francisco Thursday, with most participants seeming to agree that it was a success. The two-day meeting attracted 196 sign-ups (about 20 of whom apparently paid but did not ultimately show up to collect their badges) and almost 20 sponsors, not a bad showing for a first-of-its-kind event. The purpose of the conference was to provide a venue to discuss the business of new TLDs without ... read more ...

If you think it’s hard to connect with ICANN now, you should have experienced it before Kieren came on board. He has made it much easier to interact with ICANN and access information from the organization. It was no easy task to get public participation ... read more ...

Book Review: The Sex.com Chronicles - Lawyer’s inside look at Sex.com legal battle gets off to slow start, but redeems itself in the end. It’s a shame for Charles Carreon that his book about the Sex.com legal battle came out after Kieren McCarthy’s book Sex.com (review). As much as I tried to disassociate the two books, they require comparison. And while Kieren’s book was a riveting, objective tale by a professional author, Carreon’s book is a poorly written, subjective book written by a ... read more ...

The Los Angeles Domain World, Day 1 - A summary of my first day in L.A. I arrived in Los Angeles yesterday morning around 9am. After getting my rental car and checking into the hotel, it was off to ICANN. I didn’t know what to expect of ICANN. For some reason I had a vision of this grand building under maximum security. But when you consider much of ICANN’s role is to develop and manage policies that vision quickly fades. Indeed, ICANN’s offices are in a non-descript building overlooking the ... read more ...
