Let’s Face It; Sedo.com Generic .Me Auction, It Was A Bust - The Sedo.com Generic .Me domain name auction that concluded yesterday was, well there is no other way to say it, a bust.
Out of the 190 domain names for sale only 8 domain names sold and the vast majority never even got a bid.
The auction was run in conjunction with Brands-and-Jingles whose principal Mark Kychma told had to say:
“The result are very disappointing – Brands-and-Jingles is regularly selling .ME names in the range $5k-$50k.”

Berryhill Beats Back UDRP On SideTrack.com - John Berryhill, Esq just beat back yet another UDRP this time on the domain name Sidetrack.com brought by Side by Side, Inc. /dba/ Sidetrack.
The domain name was owned by generic domain investor, Alexander Lerman one of the newest members of the Internet Commerce Association (ICA).

Class Action Suit Filed Against Microsoft For Overcharging For Pay Per Click Ads On Parked Domain Names - MediaPost.com is reporting that Microsoft has “been hit with a potential class-action lawsuit for allegedly overcharging marketers for pay-per-click ads”.
The suit was filed Wednesday in a federal court in Seattle by Lane’s Gifts and Collectibles, “steaming from ads that Microsoft allegedly served on parked domains and “errors” pages”.
“Web users tend to reach those sites by accident, after mistyping the addresses of sites they intend to visit.”

Digg.com, 91 On Alexa, Is Sold & Buyer Betaworks Is Folding It Into News.Me - According to a blog post on its site, Digg.com was just sold to Betaworks who will be folding Digg.com into News.Me which is also owned by Betaworks.

Default settlement released opposite Paris in domain fight, indemnification conference on tap -
Paris may face damages in reverse domain name hijacking case.
A Texas district court has filed an entry of default against Ville de Paris in a domain name squabble.
The case involves Parvi.org. The city of Paris won a UDRP case for the domain name in 2009. When Paris filed the complaint it agreed to jurisdiction in Texas for matters stemming from the dispute.

This morning I read an article by Robin Wauters lampooning Power.com, which offers an @Power.com email address and subdomains for a very steep price.

ICE Seizes 70 More Domains - According to an announcement by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) today they “seized 70 websites that were illegally selling counterfeit merchandise”.
“The 70 websites seized are part of Project Copy Cat, an iteration of Operation In Our Sites (IOS), and closely mimicked legitimate websites selling authentic merchandise and duped consumers into unknowingly buying counterfeit goods. With The Domain Space Only Growing By 17 Million A Year, Where Will All The Registrations For New gTLD’s Come From? - We know that .com/.net registrations as of the last report sits at 116 million registrations is growing at the rate 8 million new registrations a year.

Apple Gets iTunes.net in UDRP - Apple was awarded the domain name, iTunes.net and i-tune.com and today in a UDRP decision.
The domain was owned under privacy and going to a parked page.
Last week Apple gained control of the domain iPad3.com after it filed a UDRP and the domain holder relinquished control of the domain.

Apple starts forwarding iPad3.com to the web site — and it’s tracking it, too -
Apple smartly measures traffic to recently recovered domain name.
Late last month Apple filed a cybersquatting complaint over the domain name iPad3.com. Shortly after filing the complaint the owner of the domain acquiesced, giving the domain to Apple’s lawyers Kilpatrick Townsend Stockton.

The Sedo Generic .Me Domain Name Auction Ends Tomorrow & 53 Domains Have A Bid - The Sedo generic .Me domain name auction ends tomorrow Thursday July 12 starting at Noon EST.
As of publication with just about 24 hours to go out of the 190 domain names in the auction 53 have at least 1 bid on them but only 2 domains have reached reserve.
Shared.me has a high bid of $999 and has hit reserve as has the domain, Recall.me

Google has made quite a splash with its “Legalize Love” campaign announced during the Global LGBT Workplace Summit over the weekend.
The first thing I did when I heard news of its new campaign was to go to LegalizeLove.com to find more information.

There will be plenty of free and low cost domain registration options, but don’t expect them to have a big impact on the domain registration market.
I’ve had a number of conversations with people over the past month about the idea of free (as in no cost) domain names.
Will some new top level domain applicants give their domains away for free? Will this upend the market for domain registrations?

Sedo.com Sells $1.1MM In Domains Led By tackboard.com for $25K - Sedo.com just announced its weekly sales data ending July 9th, 2012. In all over $1.1MM of domains were sold. The top seller was tackboard.com at $25,000.
Other domains topping the list of public sales were gamblingaffiliateprograms for £10,000 followed by eyein.com for $12,000.
In all 745 domains were sold. 41% of total sales were the result of Buy Now listings.
