11% of .Net Domains Aren’t Registered in .Com -
This and other useful stats from HosterStats.com
A few months ago I was introduced to HosterStats.com, a web site with a wealth of domain name data. The statistic in the headline of this post is somewhat surprising, but you’ll find it right here in HosterStats’ cross domain comparison.
Over 1.4 million domain names that are registered in .net aren’t registered in .com. Over 20% of domains registered in .org aren’t registered in .com. Think about all the ... read more ...

Where to Get Best Prices for .Co Sunrise and Landrush Domain Names -
Here’s a guide to getting .co at the lowest price.
I have a feeling .co is going to be hot. It will have one of the best country code “relaunches” we’ve ever seen. .CO Internet has undertaken one of the most impressive “new TLD” pre-marketing campaigns that I can think of, and the buzz is mounting. I’ve had several non-domainer friends email me inquiring about the domain.
The global sunrise period for trademark holders is going on until June 10, followed ... read more ...
Let’s Bring Some Domain Apps to Android -
Android rocks. Let’s bring some domain apps to it.
At least one research firm is saying that the Android mobile operating system passed the iPhone in sales this past quarter.
This really shouldn’t come as any surprise. We’re repeating history. Apple brings out a product but tightly controls distribution (ATT only) and what software can be used on the product (ask anyone who has had their app rejected).
Android, on the other hand, is available on a number ... read more ...

[Update: looks like I scooped Latona by a few minutes.] The Targeted TRAFFIC web site has been updated with the preliminary agenda for next month’s conference in Vancouver. There’s a nice surprise on the registration page for the web site — $395 admission.

AOL Buys Advisibility.com Domain Name — For What? -
Media giant buys domain name for a grand.
Last week AOL bought the domain name Advisibility.com for $1,000. I did some searching to see what AOL might be up to on the domain name but came up empty.
A logical answer is something related to online advertising — Ad Visibility.
As we all know by now, AOL owns Advertising.com (and claims to have rights to many variants of the word “Advertising”). Could AdVisibility.com be a new product for this group? We’ll ... read more ...

HappyMothersDay.com: Did It Just Sell? - Wishing all Mothers a wonderful and well deserved very special day.
On the domaining front, I couldn’t help but notice that the domain HappyMothersDay.com is owned by BuyDomains.com.
The domain goes to a landing page which has a big link on the top that the domain is for sale, but when you click the link it goes to a page saying the domain is not for sale.
So did the domain just sell?
The whois record still shows Buydomain as the owner and says the domain is for sale, therefore its either a pending ... read more ...

Comment period for .xxx is getting out of control
At first it was silly. Then it got annoying. Now it’s ridiculous.
The comment period for what ICANN should do about an independent review board’s finding in favor of ICM Registry to operate .xxx has become a mockery. You can mostly thank conservative organizations for creating robo forms for their constituents to send mindless comments.

Another UDRP Panelist Considers Domain Valuation in Decision -
UDRP panelists consider asking prices in decisions.
In a highly publicized domain dispute for Hayward.com, a UDRP panelist decided he was an expert at domain valuation and that the price the domain owner wanted for the domain was too high for a city .com., indicating that he must have been targeting the complainant.
Now we have another case where a panelist uses the respondent’s asking price in considering the case. Thankfully, the panelist still denied the transfer.

IDN Top Level Domain Names in a Nutshell -
A simple primer to IDN top level domains, courtesy of ICANN.
One of the reasons many people are “turned off” by internationalized domain names is that they don’t understand how they work. Admittedly, much of the information about IDNs to date has been described in a technical matter, turning people off even more.
So I was delighted to see a blog post from ICANN’s Tina Dam titled “IDN Usability“. I highly recommend reading it, as is clearly explains IDN ... read more ...
